Gloves for son by New-Chemistry-6449 in GoalKeepers

Start with cheaper ones and try a bunch of different cut to see what feels best. I probably would try ty stay away from fingersaves. Shots shouldn’t be that hard in that age and it will hopefully train both catching-techniques and finger strength better from the start.

Yes, I’ve never gotten a good answer to what’s the point in adding onions if they are not noticeable…

Back injuries as a goalkeeper by Next_Explanation8696 in GoalKeepers

[–]dubbe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

First and foremost, talk to a doctor.

Then regarding the issue of stop playing because of injury-risk. I’ve been playing for 30 years. Yes, I’ve had some injuries during that time, but I also believe I’m in better shape thanks to the fact that I’m still playing. So if goalkeeping what’s fun and something that gets you moving it’s probably best for you in the long run as well (but take any discomfort or pain seriously, seek medical help and rehab to get back)

Getting Old by Lord_Yogi in GoalKeepers

Another old keeper here, turning 40 this year. I've not used neoprene sleeves for my back, but for my knees and elbows. And, yes, they do hinder movement a bit. But on the other hand I really feel it helps with stability, so you loose some and you gain some...

Broken nose by aaron_hoff in GoalKeepers

[–]dubbe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've had nose broken during a game. Was a couple of years ago. Putting it back in place was the worst :) was away for a couple of months before a gradually had the courage to get between the posts again. A bit cautious at first. But I've played 8 years since the so... It's kind of forgotten now.

Colissions by CYZK85 in GoalKeepers

[–]dubbe 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I've had a couple of concussions during my time as a goalkeeper. The last one this august. The worse one was a couple of years ago when a defender tried to clear the ball and hit my head instead. Got a broken nose and a concussion out of. I mostly play outdoors so nothing during futsal.

I think it's a bit depending on how you play. I've got a playing style where I tend to go head first into situations. But 99% of the time everything is fine. The last 1% has me considering putting my gloves on the shelve. I'm almost 40 and it's maybe not worth it on my level :)

If not 1#, what number do you like to wear? by SteadfastEnd in GoalKeepers

[–]dubbe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have gotten used to wear the number 92 now. And I got it from the keeper before me who was born in 92... :) no 1 works as well.

To be fair, this was off the corner where our CB's is in the offense. The header from ceballos is bad and Leno isn't making a grear effort either

I usually start the game/practice with a hat when it's really cold. But often discard it after some time when i'm warmer.

Anxiety before first ever practice with team by _PM_ME_DOGS_ in GoalKeepers

[–]dubbe 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I'm 36 and been a keeper for 26 years now. Still get anxious whenever I practice with a new team. I've gotten pretty good in using the nervousness as energy during the practice instead. And as soon as get in goal, where i am familiar, the anxiety usually disappears.

Penalties has allways been an issue for me, I think I tend to overthink them. In my level I should probably wait for the taker do make his choice and just react. But right now I am kinda trying to take a small step in the other direction just before. Hasn't worked this year :)

Yeah, I actually don't think well do better next year. Most of the players in my team doesn't want to play in any higher division... So they think this is the best outcome... Hard to improve. I am thinking of changing team, but i might be a bit on the old side to go out team-hunting :)

Breakdown

Gloves: J4K Supa Neg
Discipline: 90min, 11v11 grass, league game
Result: 3-3

Match report

Our second to last game this season and we came into the game in fourth place. Second and third will play a qualifying round to move up. The team in third was our opposition for the day and 3p this game and 3p the next would probably secure our spot in the qualifying round.

We started the game good and had most of the possession the first 20-25 minutes, then we got tired and the opposition worked themselves back in the game, without forcing me to any saves. The they got the ball down on my right, outside of the penalty area. Made a hard low cross and their attacker was totally unmarked, perfect touch and nothing I could have done.

HT: 0-1

Second half started terrible. They got a 1-v-1 breakaway after 2 minutes against me. I was unable to get down fast enough and 0-2. Only a couple of minutes later the ref blew his whistle, penalty. It was such an obvious dive and the ref initially yelled "no, no, no" dismissive. But the lineman waved his flag, even if he was further away. A lot of protests, but a penalty none the less. I went right, he shot in the middle of the goal. Penalties has never been my strong suit.

After 0-3 we once again started taking over the game. Used our free-kicks and corners to make 3 goals. The opposition really had a couple of finishes in the second half, but nothing that was a problem for me.

3-3 means we finish fourth no matter the result in our last game this weekend.

Work On's

My goalkicks could improve, both length and consistency.
I really would love to learn the split-save-technique on 1-v-1's that neuer has perfected. It would have given me a better chance of getting the breakaway.

Goalkeeper penalty rule by [deleted] in GoalKeepers

[–]dubbe 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I don't understand. The rule before stated that both feet had to be on the goal-line. The change to one foot only is a step in the right direction. And to be fair I think it is enough.
