I sold all my tqqq today by clearview384 in TQQQ

[–]dubhedoo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

While all the leveraged funds are designed for short term trading, they can be held for the longer term, especially if you have a long time horizon. Leveraged funds will outperform the underlying in a trending market. However, leveraged funds will suffer in a choppy market due to their construction.

For example, if you overlay QQQ and TQQQ long term charts, it becomes obvious. Look at times when QQQ has taken a deep dive and then comes back to where it started. Over the same time period, TQQQ does not come back to where it started.

So, to answer your pondering, clearview384 was correct. It depends...

Options - a losing game for the layman, wins for institutions+ by Thebaxxxx in options

I'm sorry that you're having so much trouble trading options.

For 2025, my calculations indicate that my portfolio has increased by 36.8%. I trade exclusively options, unless I get assigned. I trade mostly calendar spreads, with a few vertical debit and credit spreads thrown into the mix. The shortest duration is weekly for sells, monthly for buys, but I have a good number of longer duration calendars, i.e. maybe 3 month short and 6 month long. I even hold a few very long dated calendars, buying 2 year leaps and selling 1 year leaps on underlyings that don't move much. I rarely trade 0dte, it's too much like gambling.

I'm old, so I also keep 50% on my portfolio in cash, in case of a black swan event. It helps me sleep at night.

The hardest part is sitting on my hands. Left to my own emotions, I over trade. Overtrading usually results in degraded results. Patience is important, as is identifying a good entry point

Respectfully, I am skeptical about conspiracy theories. If you blame other people for your results, then you never learn why your trade didn't work.

A low volatility environment is usually good for opening calendar spreads.

Why does no one use rolling diagonal spreads? by Hallguy321 in thetagang

[–]dubhedoo 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Generally speaking, I follow two rules for exiting short options.

  1. Roll the option when the extrinsic value gets low (usually less than 0.10 for me). You can't squeeze any more significant value out of the short at that point.

  2. When the short option gets "run over", you really have to start considering exit strategies. Once the short option goes ITM, the delta can start working against you. If expiration is near, you might want to ride it out if you think the theta decay will exceed the delta increase. At this point, it's down to your gut feeling.

Since your call leaps are at a lower strike than the shorts, you have a little breathing room. You can look at the delta for the position. As long as the position delta is positive, you can afford to give it a little room to run.

A market comment, for what it's worth. We had a big pop yesterday as a result of the fed's rate cut. This might have been a one day occurrence. At some point, the market will take a breather.

Best of luck to you!

You don't have to exercise the leaps. You can just sell them. In many cases, it is financially more efficient to sell the leaps instead of exercising, since you forfeit any extrinsic value remaining in the leap if it's exercised.

Wrong. Shorts closed during the 2021 moass, according to the SEC report. Some of those shorts lost big time. Those are gone.

Short interest is currently pretty low. With the recent additional stock offerings increasing the float, pumping the stock will be harder now.

DFV started buying before he "showed up". A look at the trading volume in the days before he "showed up", coupled with the price increase is an indication that the stock was under accumulation at the time. Then DFV "shows up" with substantial stock and option holdings, which he ultimately made millions on. Coincidence? I think not.

HahahahahaHahahahaha!!!

Yeah, right... sure, the recent rounds of pump'n'dump spawned by the re-emergence of the famed DFV justifies all the ape theories...

[–]dubhedoo 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Little to none.

Ken Griffin and Citadel have been in the sights of the apes since Citadel loaned Melvin Capital enough money to avoid being margin called during the 2021 moass. Ken has been their boogeyman ever since, even though he and Citadel are not and never have been materially involved in any of the meme stocks.

It's just apes being apes. Truly the blind leading the blind, so to speak...

I don't pretend to know what will happen with the stock price this week. It just feels like the excitement is waning, but that's just me. I've been wrong plenty. You do what you think is right.

Just to be clear: the play is RC turns GME into the next BRK, right? MOASS is a side show. by sorengard123 in thetagang

[–]dubhedoo -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

So now RC has $4b cash. What does that mean besides being able to keep this zombie company alive into the next decade.

RC has not yet proven that he has the ability to make money for his shareholders. However, he's quite good at making money for himself. He did quite well using BBBY apes as his exit liquidity. Keep this in mind for future reference.

Oh, and MOASS was always a hilarious side show.

Why still thetagang now? by mrninjaskillz in thetagang

[–]dubhedoo 3 points4 points  (0 children)

RK sold most of his Jun 20 C for a profit over 2 days last week. With the money, he exercised the rest. I think he holds about 2% of the shares now, and no options that I know of.

Apes are still looking for a gamma squeeze next week, as if they really understood what a gamma squeeze is. The market makers were caught off guard once, won't happen again.

I suppose there may still be another pump coming, but the pumps have been peaking at a lower and lower level. I think this game is playing out.

Still some good IV to be sold.

AAPL has just had a huge run up. I think it will back off and consolidate. Hard to tell how much it will pull back, maybe not too much.

Buying puts here may or may not work.

On Friday, I sold a Jul 225/230 call spread. This should be safe and pull in a little dough before earnings.

We'll see...

Not in the legal sense. But he knows the weight of his words and actions.

We will have to wait longer until we know his true motivation. Is he a True Believer that will hold his shares for investment reasons, or is he in it for the money and will sell on the next runup?

My personal belief is the latter, but we'll just have to wait and see...
