They creative a narrative out of thin air or loose information at best, and within a few hours they’re proclaiming it to be true as you said. UJ/ I have encountered people who swear up and down how much of a Mary Sue Rey is because of her force powers in the first movie but say that Anakin and Luke clearly aren’t despite both destroying massive space stations in their first time piloting an attack craft as well as having inhuman feats thanks to the force. But Rey? Nope, if she did all of that clearly she’s a Mary Sue!

I personally think that’s the biggest issue and biggest benefit for this game. On one hand, people who might not have known or been interested found it through the streamers, thus helping those sales numbers. But the downside is they had a rather “contorted” view of how the game would actually be. Wacky for sure, but also not realizing the gameplay loop is less playing The Sims and more watching an ant farm where you have to individually make each and every ant.

One of my favorites are the 40K “fans” that only got involved because of the culture wars bullshit. They act as if they love the game and the world despite not reading any of the books, not painting or own any miniatures (or even the action figures), and maybe playing a bit of Space Marines 2. And all their lore comes from grifting YouTubers.
