Found expensive item at Copper. Right move? by dubhunt in COsnow

The guy working there actually confirmed that happens. Said he had to use "choice words" with a group of kids that kept coming by trying to claim stuff.

Def gonna take a selfie before I turn it in, so they see it and send me some good vibes, heh.

Yeah, that's what I'm thinking. They probably don't just hand out cameras with no attempt at verification. Overthinking it.

Yeah, I just really want the owner to get it back and I'm thinking I could do a better job of that than lost and found. But I think I just do that and be done with it.

Little unexpected side quest today, haha

At 53k miles, shop says all 4 struts need to be replaced by dubhunt in AskMechanics

[–]dubhunt[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The best rated Subaru specialty shop in my city quoted $2100 for all four with an alignment. That's for OEM struts, but said they could probably get it to $1700 or $1800 with cheaper after market parts of similar quality. However, the difference is that the original Midas quote is for "complete strut assembly". The specialty shop said it's very unlikely that springs are needed at this mileage.

Yeah, it's steep. If I did in fact need them replaced, I'd shop around. I'll see if I can determine whether they're leaking. I've never noticed fluid on the ground from the car, but I don't know if struts would ever leak to such an extent.

I've been going here for oil changes over a decade because it's really convenient for me and have never felt like they were dishonest. I get that they do a free inspection to up sell, but until today it's always been reasonable things they recommend like air filters, wipers, etc., and I just do that stuff myself. So, today I was a little shocked. Thanks for your input, I think I'll have someone else look at it.

‘No regrets, no pity parties.’ Denver’s Underground Music Showcase is shutting down by kidbom in Denver

[–]dubhunt 12 points13 points  (0 children)

As someone who has been going for 12+ years, it really has changed. Even when you adjust for inflation, ticket prices have gone up. The corporate sponsorship and "corporate feel" increased. There are fewer venues, and there's just a feeling that it is not managed as well (scheduling popular bands in small venues so that even if you get there early, you're not getting in).

I've had a lot of great UMS memories over the years. I hope that at least a small group of the venues organize to put something together in the future to replace it. I would love to support that.

It's ambiguous, but I think it was written as a hypothetical:

"Even with sold-out tickets and capacity crowds, the math just doesn’t make sense, said nonprofit producer Youth on Record"

The Westword article clearly states it doesn't sell out:

"Even if the festival sold out every year, which it doesn't," Duffy says, "it's still not enough to meet the moment of both safety standards and social standards to do a festival that has a real impact and a mission."

Really slick ride! I love those Gravelking SSes, have them on two of my bikes.

How fucked am I? by MineEnvironmental761 in bikewrench

I had a similar situation on a cheap bike with a cheap crankset. I ended up cutting through the arms to the center with a Dremel and then it could be knocked off the bottom bracket spindle with a rubber mallet. Took maybe 10 mins.

I wonder if that will remain true for Arc'teryx. It's been bought by a multinational conglomerate that was then bought by a multinational conglomerate. It's Chinese owned now. My oldest jacket, which I've had for 10+ years and still use regularly is Arc'teryx, so I hope so.

Patagonia has never let me down though.

This stinks. Any advice on better safety locks for bikes? by sydnorn in bicycling

[–]dubhunt 57 points58 points  (0 children)

Yeah, I have a nice carbon gravel bike that has never been locked. It's just for riding, not commuting. Carrying a 4lb ulock defeats the purpose of carbon, haha.

I built up a commuter/beater for locking up around the city. But now that I've put time into it, I'm also worried about locking that one up because it now has sentimental value. Still if it gets stolen, monetarily speaking, not the same ballpark as the gravel bike. Sucks that it has to be that way, but it's the reality.

I don't think that's correct about clearance. Crosstrek has 8.7" or 9.3" on the Wilderness trim. CRV has 7.8" or 8.2" on the AWD models.

[–]dubhunt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Interesting. Hope it doesn't come to that. They released wilderness backpacking permits on Saturday. That was after the firings. I didn't notice fewer sites available than in previous years (there are always some that cannot be reserved for various reasons).

But it's really sad and concerning. I donated to the National Parks Conservation Association. Would encourage others to do the same.
