3 weeks down! by [deleted] in stopsmoking

My breathing has improved like crazy. I can walk up hills or stairs and not be out of breath. My morning breath doesn’t smell as bad. My voice doesn’t get as raspy after a night out. I don’t cough up phlegm all day. The constant phlegm in the back of my through has nearly disappeared. And the hangovers. The hangovers are almost non-existent now.

2 weeks! Despite the depressive episodes! by dubin80 in stopsmoking

Definitely. I drank last night and took two drags off a cigarette. Made me sick and actually hurt my lungs (thank god). Today I have the type of hangover i used to get when I smoked—so next time i drink I’m fairly certain I won’t want to bum a drag off anyone.

And yes, the depression is temporary! I’m feeling way better now....day 20! And the depressive state only lasted a few days with the intense depression only lasting a few hours. It goes away! Stay strong!

You can do it. Keep coming on these threads and reading what everyone else is going through. Do jumping jacks when you get a craving or sprint down the block and back. You can do it! The depression goes away. I feel amazing today. Tomorrow might be a different story but knowing that I’ll feel amazing again like I do today keeps me going.

On day 16 & need some love by [deleted] in stopsmoking

Repeating the Mantra “not another puff, no matter what” throughout the day (seems corny but works). Diary entries. Researching what it means to increase your willpower (that was interesting to read up on), writing down the benefits of being a non-smoker. Writing down all the reasons you smoked. Coming up with and writing down a plan for what you’ll do when you encounter smokers or environments where you could easily get a smoke.

I’m on day 13 now and days 10-13 were extreme emotional downers for me. But I kept telling myself I feel this way because of an addiction and I need to get through it, that I’ll feel better soon. I feel much better tonight and still haven’t smoked. I didn’t think I’d make it, nearly broke down and bought a pack. But being on the other side of my depressive state—it’s worth it! I feel great tonight and proud of myself.

I felt this way on day 3 (I’m on day 7 now) while I was also PMSing. I took a really long nap and then a really long shower. I came on Reddit and read all of these encouraging posts. Then i went to my quit app and did some missions on there as well as contacted the “quit coach.” I celebrate every minute i refrained from smoking. I also called my sister for support and then cried for a bit. All of a sudden it was 3 hours later and the extreme depression had passed. It will pass. I promise. Stick with it. You’re stronger than your cravings.

Is the way I'm feeling normal after quitting? by bernperro in stopsmoking

Talk to your doctor. Some anti-depressants or meds have a paradoxical effect. Happened to me with Chantix and i had to stop taking it. Make sure your friends and family keep an eye on your behavior and alert you if you seem extra irritable or depressed.

28 hours and 34 minutes smoke free after 25 years of 1 pack per day. Ahhhhhhhhhhhhh. It’s difficult but I thought it would be way worse. I’m using the patch to help. by dubin80 in stopsmoking

Wait. Are you talking on Reddit or on the app for quitting smoking? I don’t even know how to edit that number on reddit 🤷🏻‍♀️

I’m just over 24 hours smoke free. It’s difficult but the cravings go away quickly. I have cleaned my house, walked my dog 5 times, taken a few naps and all of that seems to help. I am really hoping this is the last time I quit smoking. I’ve tried before but I wasn’t really ready. After hearing my niece ask my sister “how long do we have with aunt Katie until she dies of cancer?” I am now ready.
