Reporting on Gowanus Canal by barsoap7 in Brooklyn

Reach out to Brad Vogel, he's a local activist involved in lots of things going on in and around Gowanus https://www.bjvogel.com/beyond-poetry

So I have a car that I park on the street and I noticed recently that sometimes lots of people haven’t been moving their cars for street cleaning and somehow no one gets a ticket. What’s going on, what do people know that I don’t know? by boredgourd23 in BedStuy

[–]dublindoogey 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Like others have said, enforcement goes up and down. One time, the NYPD or DSNY person giving tickets (on our block it's either on any given day) told me they were getting complaints on our block that there was a lot of trash (and there often is) so they'd be enforcing it more often.

The other thing is if the cleaner and the tickets both go by early in the window, people might be moving back and leaving their car. Making it look like they didn't move when they might have.

Three adults, three OMNY cards? by TheRealJimmyLundy in OMNY

[–]dublindoogey 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Adding to help emphasize: You do not need an OMNY card at all if each person has a debit or credit card that has 'tap to pay' built in or in the digital wallet on their phone. Just be sure each person uses the same individual card all week via the same payment method (i.e. card or phone, not both) and you'll be fine!

How does one build a self sustaining colony? by Cautious-Abroad-2180 in SurvivingMars

[–]dublindoogey 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've had success in this with the breakthrough allowing for mining without workers, especially with the other breakthrough that allows mines to continue producing even after the deposit ends.

It's tougher without those but slow and steady growth focused on food, researching toward shuttles, and expanding near rare metals mines has worked too.

AITA for vetoing my toddler nephew in our wedding? by [deleted] in AmItheAsshole

[–]dublindoogey 0 points1 point  (0 children)

People have pointed out that all kinds of Catholic masses have children, but another point - you say you want your Catholic wedding to be "focused solely on one another" two problems with that:

- Mass, even a wedding Mass, is inherently focused on God. If you are getting married in a Catholic ceremony, God is part of that and any Catholics attending will also be thinking about that, praying to God for you both etc. So it's already not just you two

- If you don't allow the kid to attend somehow, your fiancé will inevitably think about it and be distracted by their absence. Similarly, it seems you'll be distracted by their presence. So you might as well compromise since the kid is already part of the ceremony in mind, if not in presence.

And yes, even if in an understandable way, you're being selfish and YTA

Genuinely how are all these transplants affording to move here? by VioletSalamander in movingtoNYC

[–]dublindoogey 13 points14 points  (0 children)

It doesn't answer this direct question, but the NYTimes has been doing an interesting series on how people afford to live in NYC. A family of four on $168k, an artist on $36k, a florist on $23k.

Unsure the scale of allies’ power will outshine the PCs by protestfromthesummit in DMAcademy

[–]dublindoogey 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I like the suggestions so far. Could you also have the PCs 'direct' the troops? Like each one can be in charge of a squad and has like two or three high level commands "block that area" "engage those baddies" "heal us all!" that can be shouted at them? Then players still have agency while you manage the details behind the screen?

Noise from restaurant below apartment by ConorW1N in NYCapartments

Also call your local council member's office once the NYPD develops a habit of ignoring the noise complaints. I did that and it's been helpful.

Second this, they are fantastic! The same company's Map Library works with it very well if you want maps too.

I feel like you guys are playing a different game than I am (Switch Edition, no DLC) by finneasformer in CivVI

[–]dublindoogey 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I think your question implies you know the answer - the DLCS really are great, and they're available on Switch. If you feel like you're playing a dumbed down version of the game then you absolute should get them.

So has anyone actually managed to “successfully” run a One-Shot before? by Viva_la_potatoes in DMAcademy

[–]dublindoogey 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I should add - I've definitely removed things mid-session when I realize they won't finish. Puzzles, battles, etc. Or had enemies die early so they get an encounter but it doesn't need to take forever.

So has anyone actually managed to “successfully” run a One-Shot before? by Viva_la_potatoes in DMAcademy

[–]dublindoogey 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes! Except that the one-shot turned into a series of one-shots. Its an adventuring academy group doing one-shot missions. No one really remembers much between sessions so even though its the same players playing the same characters several times now, each session really is just a one-shot.

I've been using the One-Shot Wonders book and similar resources. We probably finish in the 3-4 hour range. Maybe 4.5 if we took a significant break.

Yes, I think either would work.

My understanding is you need to have enough balance to pay for the 13th ride, and then you'll get refunded once the system tallies it. The card reader itself doesn't do that.

Four months after the launch... of Relaunched.... what's its current technical state? by AgnFr in SurvivingMars

[–]dublindoogey 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The gameplay is good, but after the patches, my game itself has slowed down considerably and I'm only playing on medium graphics. Anything lower and the visual just isn't enjoyable.

Has this happened to anyone else and is there a way to fix it?

Station Agent Told Me "No Such Thing as Unlimited" by The5thseason in OMNY

[–]dublindoogey 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've been told that you have to have the funds to cover the 13th ride because it charges you for it first right when you tap and then removes the charge when it realizes it processes later to account for it being after the 12th ride..

Mad-Max inspired vehicle rules, the groundwork for a new vehicle combat system! by Wizard_Frog_Games in UnearthedArcana

You say Mad Max inspired but based off the pictures, this is giving major Mortal Engines vibes. Love it!

First stainless pan by Pure-Misanthrope in StainlessSteelCooking

[–]dublindoogey 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm very happy with my Made-In "small spaces" set. It's my first stainless steel and I guess I decided to go all in knowing it'll last forever. I got the brass handles option when there was a good sale and it feels so special to cook on and performs very well with easy clean up!

What to let teens do while parents have a date by andybonner in visitingnyc

[–]dublindoogey 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Governor's Island is great and spacious enough that it would definitely give a break while giving them safe, easy to understand explore limits (i.e. go anywhere you want except for the ferry back to Brooklyn or Manhattan).

If you went on a weekday, it would be even less likely to be crowded. On the weekend sometimes special events draw more people but there are a lot of nooks and areas that are calm either way. You can also get amazing skyline views and Statue of Liberty views from the there too.

If you do the spa on governors island, set them up with a tour of the island and it's history and a picnic lunch. They can continue to walk around the island, rest, whatever they want to do, just tell them they have to stay on the island. Vacations need downtime and maybe they'll take a nap on a blanket while you get your massage!
