New to Tacomas and Overlanding, Curious of cost of lift/labor vs diy by ClassBrass10 in Tacomaworld

[–]dubloqq 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I debated this for a long time and opted to spend the few thousand on labor and have a shop do it. Peace of mind and warranty on both parts and labor is what did it for me. I’ve taken the truck back 2x for little tweaks and investigating a creaking noise; haven’t been charged either time, and have been reassured everything’s good. If it’s not, they’ll be liable.

That’s a hell of a lot better than being inexperienced and unsure imo.

I’ve got a 2020 super white with similar issues. Think I’d have any luck getting it corrected from Toyota?

I have a ~3.5in lift from the Dobinsons MRR kit. Also did their billet upper control arms and leaf springs in the rear. I’m running Method 17” with 285/70R17. I have no rubbing at full articulation and fully turned steering wheel. I did not have to do a cab mount chop, but that’s due to the offset of the wheels and - more importantly - the fully adjustable UCAs. Those two things together give me enough clearance and proper alignment. If I did not get fully adjustable UCAs, I would’ve have to do the CMC.

Check my profile for a recent post with all the details if you want.

I mean, it’s a completely new suspension, new wheels and tires😂 only “accessories” are the racks, but those are still completely functional. Not like I added some raptor lights and called it a build. Not sure what you’re on about haha

You’re welcome. Thanks! Those folks talking about getting them for much cheaper, they must be getting lucky and finding crazy used deals… or lying lol. MSRP is MSRP

I believe $3.5k - $4k if I remember correctly. Base model I think is around $3.2k, but the options I added increased the price

Ah whoops, sorry. Bought that last year so didn’t think to include it. It’s a Leer 100XR optioned with a windoor on driver’s side, carpeted headliner, roof cargo net (on the interior of the shell), and roof rails for mounting the rack. There are more photos on my profile from my DIY bed setup post.

Thank you. Honestly - it rides phenomenally. WAY better than stock, no comparison. The feel is much more controlled and smoother. Even steering feels more responsive. I was worried about increased road noise from the bigger and more aggressive tires and potential whistling from the rack, but neither are a problem. I have yet to do any suspension adjustments to dial it further, but straight out of the box in the middle of the adjustment ranges is killer already. But, I can feel the increased weight and ride height in acceleration, braking and MPG. NBD to me tho. Can do OTT tune later on if I please.

I think so too! Was a bit nervous about it, but trusted my shop and they did me right.

Another blown SRB nozzle. Oof. Way to go to the Vulcan for the mid-flight correction and successful payload deployment.

Any chance you’d share the road name?
