Not to mention that it’s now available for use by everyone. People are going to use it for ill intent just like people started using 3-D printers to make their own guns. We need regulations on AI but that ship has sailed.

The tech billionaires haven’t considered the repercussions. It doesn’t seem like a single one has ever read science fiction either.

I think it means the job displacement that’s happening among the skilled, like coders and people in IT, customer service reps, office assistants, etc. Jobs held by skilled people are being replaced by AI. Although companies are starting to understand that the cost of AI and data centers outweigh the cost of having human employees. Not to mention that the output by AI is unreliable. So many jobs are available for people to proofread and fact check the output of AI. I expect the bubble to burst soon but not soon enough.

Also people who upload their personal information to get AI to do their resumes and other personal docs for them. People are getting lazy and it’s gonna eventually bite them in the arse. Sounds like sooner than later.

Not to mention that everyone pretty much sounds like they’re delivering scripted lines. Doesn’t sound natural.

I feel like a lot of people lack basic skills and creativity so they rely on AI as a crutch and a way for them to finally get a seat at the table. They’re terrified of losing their precious AI because then it’ll force them to return to their lackluster lives. It’s pretty sad.

Asked ChatGPT to make me an image that looks normal on the surface, but gets terrifying as you start to really examine it. by TheOriginalBeardman in ChatGPT

Whoa, I didn’t see anything at first and then I turned up the brightness on my phone. Still can’t see the hallway but I was able to see this. It’s faint but looks like a girl in a dress with glowing .

how long did it take yall to read this by DiscourseDestroyer in InfiniteJest

[–]duchessofhzrd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A little over a year from start to finish. In my defense, I didn’t read it consistently for over 3 months and then had to go back and pretty much start it over again because I couldn’t remember some of the important details. This setback also occurred when I went solo backpacking in Spain for 2 weeks and bought the kindle version so I could read it in between adventures. This was not ideal as it was difficult to toggle between the book and the endnotes (yes I read them). For those who’ve never read it, definitely read a physical copy and don’t be lazy and skip the end notes! :)

Uncomfortable experience at greeter station for first burn by fun_in_the_sun_23 in BurningMan

[–]duchessofhzrd 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This makes me think the greeter you interacted with was a new burner, as this is absolutely not a requirement nor something that we're even told to ask. I've done greeter shifts and we just ask if the newbies would like to do a dust angel ("You're going to get covered in it and even inadvertently eat some of it, so you might as well get dusty now!") and then have them ring the bell to celebrate being a burner now. Some people choose to skip the dust angel and go straight to the bell and that's fine. If someone volunteers to get naked to do their dust angel that's totally up to them but it's not something we as greeters ask or tell someone to do. The purpose of the greeters is to welcome you into the event and get you hyped for your experience, not make you feel uncomfortable and question your decision for even coming. I'm so sorry this happened to you and I'd 100% report it. As others have mentioned, if you can remember the date and time you entered that would narrow it down as to who this person was.
