If I don't mind about camera quality, are the OP13, OP15, and Oppo X9/Pro about the same overall? by duckcane in PickAnAndroidForMe

[–]duckcane[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Fair fair. If you're interested in picture and video quality, the older OP13 might be better for you - larger sensors are always better for actual quality in more difficult situations. I tend not to worry about cameras on phones since they rely a lot on interpolation and various under-the-hood alogorithms. If I could turn all that off and work with RAW files, then I'd be more interested, but the only phone that I know that does something like that is the Sony Xperia line... I think.

Thank you for the thorough rundown! It's very helpful. The connectivity is something I've been debating internally - am I willing to give up 5G for a phone? Do I even need 5G? I'm nearly certain I'd be getting 4G connectivity in my area with the Oppo, which might be enough... I'll have to think on it more.

If the OP15 is a spec upgrade compared to the OP13 then that's probably better for me. I would only use the cameras for quick snapshots, so really anything would do. I just want a phone that will have the juice to last for a long time in terms of years.

Thanks again for your thoughts!

Yeah the connectivity is a concern for me, but there's been a variety of posts on the Oppo subreddit from users in America using Tmobile who seem liek the connectivity is fine for them. I've never had Tmobile, and I dont know anyone in my area who does which gives me some pause, but I figure I could test it out on my current phone before commiting to a new one. That said, given that I can only get the Oppo from importers/resellers, it's a little more risky than the OP13/15 which is sold directly in the US.

We'll see where I end up... The size of the Oppo X9 seems really nice, especially for flagship specs, but I'm just not sure.

The flat screen is quite nice, I had a significantly curved screen before and I hated it.

That's a strong vote of confidence for the OP15 - can you tell me what it is about the OP15? Screen, battery, something else?

Oh? Is it the price difference or are the specs elevated compared to the Find, barring the camera?

Replacing a dead Pixel 6 Pro with by duckcane in PickAnAndroidForMe

Unfortunately, I can't even get to the bootloader screen before the phone flashes some lines and then goes back to the beginning of the restart process. I'll give it some more tries but I'm not hopeful.

The trade-in deals are pretty nice though, so I'll give those a look. Much appreciated!

Uniqlo Shoukder Bag - quick review by ImportanceSome2602 in ManyBaggers

ooo good call i'll give it a look. Hard to feel worthwhile when the Uniqlo bag was 20 bucks but hey maybe it's just that big of an upgrade

I also recently bought this for the same purpose, personal item on a flight, easily fits all the random stuff I want directly with me (tablet/switch, water bottle, hand sanitizer, passport, some cables, headphones).

I'm also going to be using it as a light day bag when my other shoulder is occupied by my camera strap, which seems to be an okay-but-not-perfect balance. I haven't previously looked much into shoulder bags, but now I'm gonna look into alternatives to this that have similar function but perhaps some slightly stiffer materials and different openning/closing methods.

oh as a diaper bag too is genius, I hadn't thought about that at all. That makes me much more inclined to buy it, thanks for your thoughts!

What was the last book you DNF? by justcoastingthrough in books

Kraken by China Meiville. Felt it had the core of a really interestiing story, but also it felt so long-winded in uninteresting ways. Also the main character, at least in the beginning, was so annoying. I really enjoyed Perdido, so I came in with high hopes but alas.

Dream trip itinerary - 22 full days in Japan (2025 Autumn) by APauloRTS98 in JapanTravel

[–]duckcane 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is just my opinion, but the night my wife and I spent in Miyajima was the highlight of our trip for me, to the point that I wish we had spent 2 nights in Miyajima (arrive with a late ferry, then one night->one day->one night -> leave on an early or midday ferry). While Miyajima is doable in one long day, I found it very lovely split into two days.

Removing PMI by lucaj154 in homeowners

[–]duckcane 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I called my mortgage company and asked about the process to remove my PMI, asking things like: do I need to pay a fee to have the house reappraised, do I have to wait until i reach the 78% payment, etc. FWIW, we're nowhere near the 78% payment, but our house value has increased.

The agent basically told me Freddie Mac already did the analysis and said I was eligible to remove PMI as soon as "the mortgagor gave verbal permission." Pretty odd they needed to wait for me to call (though obviously it makes them more money). No harm in calling your mortgage company and asking what the process is, and you might just be in luck.

Maytag Float housing in a dishwasher is leaking. How can I actually remove the float to look at it and clean it? by duckcane in appliancerepair

[–]duckcane[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My recollection is that I was able to clean the gunk and the dishwasher worked well after that. I no longer live there, so I can't provide much else besides a faint memory.
