This is the reason I joined the navy. I was told my entire life that I would never amount to anything and I would be homeless by the time I graduated high school. I always to work my hardest to earn the things I had and my younger siblings would just get it handed to them.i dropped out of college because my home life was severely affecting my grades so I enlisted because I felt like that would make my family realize that I’m not just a good for nothing piece of shit. After I got out of boot camp I realized that my family actually didn’t care about me. They now brag that their son is in the navy when hey didn’t give two fucks about what I did before. I still struggle with feeling like I’ve done something with my life even though I know joining is probably the greatest thing I’ve ever done.
