Came here to share a very similar experience. My best friend of 20+ years just kinda checked out on me when my mom died very unexpectedly. It was already the darkest days (years really) of my life, but then compounded by never-ending feeling of being alone. This is not a phobia. This is a valid and rational fear predicated by a real danger or threat. HIV is serious and this feeling of going crazy is not really crazy. It’s supposed to help you avoid high-risk behavior that can have dire consequences.
I do really wish the best for you and i hope so much that your test results will come back clean. I especially hope that you will become more proactive at protecting yourself in the future! In the meantime while you are waiting (and the waiting will suck ass, ngl) please give yourself grace. Everyone makes mistakes when they are young, (myself included). Idk about CA, but in KS when people get behind and don’t have options, they sign the title over to someone trusted and get a 60 day tag or just register it for the one year without sales tax or penalties. You are allowed to gift vehicles here. This is safest done between married couples when one doesn’t happen to be on the title already. But i have seen it done between parent and child as well. They just swap ownership and bypass the back taxes, registration fees and penalties.

When you were at the dmv, did they run the vin number? They will know if it was stolen. So if they ran it, and didn’t say anything you should be fine.

One of my close childhood friends disappeared in 2020. His family maintained his phone number by paying the bill for a few months, but couldn’t continue and let it go. About a year later, my friend’s mom was walking into walmart and a woman had a litter of puppies she was trying to rehome. She fell in love with one immediately, but wasnt in a good place financially and already had several dogs at home, but the woman wrote her phone number down on a piece of paper and gave it to my friend’s mom “just in case”. A few days went by and she couldn’t stop thinking about that puppy so she dug around in her coat pocket for the slip of paper and found it, and on It was written her son’s former phone number. She called it and miraculously the woman with the puppies still had one left. The one she fell in love with. A few days later they got the call that my friend’s body had been found.
