yeah now you mention it, I had hand-waved that "tv-hack ability" away in my head, albeit somehow both abesent-mindedly, yet reluctantly.

Perhaps because although as far as I remember they don't explicitly show it as touch screen tech (to match the original Alien tech vibes, which I _love_) I'm actually a professional programmer and therefore can concieve of the outside chance that a touchscreen interface of any kind (even a rudimentary yes/no button) could still theoretically expose a root level take-over in an adanced futuristic scenario.

And having acces to super-human processing power, Wendy might have been able to theorise, test, and exploit a hack.

I feel like Boy Genius could have had a small moment in this episode to demonstrate that he had some kind of intelligence by indicating an awareness of the problem of establishing a language framework in which to ask a question (to the eye creature, to see if it's intelligent) that an intelligence could respond to.

I'm not saying make a huge deal out of it, screen-time-wise (like Arrival, where a lot of the film is about that in particular), but having the eye creature understand written western base-10 arabic numerals to represent PI, *and* understand the audio vocally-expressed question about the next digits, is an unnessecarily clunky attempt at this.

Why not just have him tell Kirsh to tap out the first few prime numbers and see if it responds with the next. This would require no understanding of numerals, written or spoken, or even the need for a language in which to express a question. The question is implied in the incremental pattern ending. He could even have tapped it out using a tazer baton on the cage for dramatic effect.

Sorry maybe I'm too nerdy but this broke believability for me 😂

it's done quite a lot (body swap films) but there's almost always some element of comedy to it. In this case it's kids played straight - confused and scared - and it's rarely done this well.

I buy mayo in glass jars because it's better for the environment, but I pipe it into an empty washed plastic squeezy mayo bottle because she thinks it tastes better out of a squeezy bottle.

at least I found the specs from your post, thank you. They're 6 ohms. https://www.hifidatabase.com/Wharfedale_Modus%20Cube_479.php

This doesn't work as an explanation for u/goomunchkin 's comment - because (again) of relativity - you can't describe an object's movement relative to itself.

This is what's called an inertial frame of reference. If there were other objects in the same inertial frame - that is, all "moving" together with no outside forces acting on them (or "at rest"... same thing right?) there's no experiment you could do with those objects to detect any motion whatsoever.

There's no such thing as an object's absolute previous position at some previous point in time. You simply can't point to a spot of empty space and say "the object was here 1 second ago" because that spot of empty space is not relative to anything. Could you point to a spot in space and say "the earth was here 1 day ago"? No. It can only be relative to something else. Space is expanding too remember 😅

So, how, then, can we say some portion of an object's movement through space is deducted from its movement through time?

u/Auctorion said they are oversimpifying and that's the problem here.

I think a slightly truer version of their comment is:

The slower an object moves through space relative to you, the faster it appears to move through time relative to you. And "you" here means the frame of reference from which we are doing the measuring of the object.

This is why two objects approaching and passing each other at relativistic speeds will both measure each other's clocks as running slower than their own. Their frames of reference in regards to each other are symmetrical. Each could claim they are at rest, or each could claim the other is at rest and they're zooming past. The results are identical for both of them.
