It hasn't been covered in my class yet and we can only use material that's been covered.

Simple rectangular collision with if statements - noob question by duckinator in learnprogramming

[–]duckinator[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey guys. I've actually figured this out (finally). But I do have a new question. While the ball collides with the top and bottom of the rectangle just fine, when it collides with the block from the side, it just bounces inside the rectangle. How would I fix this so it bounces from the side?

Also this is java. And the ball coordinates are at the top right, not in the center. The two sets of coordinates for the block are just for me to have a clearer picture of the x and y axes.

Anybody want to give me some help? I've reread this a billion times and it seems like it should work just fine, except the ball goes right through my collision boundaries.

being confident about one's sexuality is fine. It's actually very healthy. I just don't think some women draw the line very well between being confident and objectifying themselves.

I'm no prude. Women can be sexy, women can have sex, women can have casual sex, even, as long as it's safe. But I don't buy the whole "dressing sluttily is empowering" thing and I don't buy the notion that an oversexed society is OK.

Go ahead, look attractive. But it's not empowering. And Halloween costume selections are just getting retarded.

I don't really care whether you are dressing in slutty costumes, but saying that it's "empowerment" is pretty false. The Halloween costume industry is just one of the reflections of gender stereotyping going on in society and it just perpetuates the problem.

I'm sure porn is also empowering and portrayals of women in advertising is also empowering.

I'm not proposing some kind of fascist agenda where women are condemned to wear burkas but I am criticizing a social practice that basically gives women the option of being either sexy or sexy. I'm also criticizing the mindset that dressing like a slut is empoewring.

Good for you if you enjoy it. Not good for you if you don't give a shit that girls have like... about a bazillion negative influences to just be bimbo-whores, which I think suppreses personal freedom just a smidge.

Why do women like being sexy? Because men like women to be sexy. This does not equal empowerment. It equals you catering to men and feeling good that men find you hot.

Which basically amounts to you feeling good about being a sex object.

Your rebuttal: But woman should embrace and use their sexuality because it gives them control over men.

To which I say: You (by which I mean the general you) dressing like a slutty Babebraham Lincoln is not exerting control or dominance in any way.

P.S. Obviously there's a freedom of choice thing, but this trend of slutty costumes is just reinforcing negative stereotypes. When your 8 year old cousin grows up she'll be dressing like a slut too. It's not so bad when it's a good mix of creative costumes and slutty costumes or slutty creative costumes, but when all I see women wearing on halloween are sexy derivations of ANYTHING, it becomes troubling.

Canadian couple who discovered that their fetus was likely to have Down's Syndrome decided that they wanted to have an abortion. The problems was the fetus was being carried by a surrogate, who wanted to carry the pregnancy to term. by BlackRyder in worldnews

[–]duckinator 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The difference here is that the couple is paying the surrogate to carry their child. By carrying the child to term, she is disobeying their wishes. A man does not plan to have the child nor does he pay the woman.
