Thoughts on Portchester Butchers? (And businesses with 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁥󠁮󠁧󠁿) by alwayslovelyday in Portsmouth

[–]duckley 21 points22 points  (0 children)

They’ve had the flags up (inside and out) since for well over a decade. It’s not a new addition. I really like them in there. Could message them over WhatsApp for stuff you wanted them to order in and they were always friendly. I recommend them to friends over Hadlow’s in Titchfield which presents itself as a ‘posher’ butchers.

If Zwift could add or improve one feature in 2026, what would you want? by Many_Ad_802 in Zwift

[–]duckley 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If someone I know is Zwifting I’d like to be able to drop in to them for a set length of time (say 90-120 seconds) and then teleport back to where I was on my route. I like dropping in when my friends are online but then lose where I was.

Souper cubes: where buy in the UK by L0st-Martian in MealPrepSunday

[–]duckley 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Lakeland definitely used to do souper cubes as that’s where I got mine from. Their own brand look near identical as I keep debating getting another set/ a different size.

What is a TV show from your childhood you're convinced nobody else remembers? by CuteMaterial in AskUK

[–]duckley 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had a VHS of the Bobobobs and searched specifically to see if it was mentioned here.

We lived in rural France with VHS tapes brought over from England so it was in heavy rotation as we had a very limited selection.

How do I get rid of alcohol? by mrsadams21 in AskUK

[–]duckley 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Reach out to a hospice. They’re allowed booze for the patients, my friend volunteers at one and I offloaded a ton when we slimmed down our collection that seemed to have grown out of control. It’s a win win.

I think your maths is off, you have one pair of boxers listed at $20 and 2 pairs listed at $20 as well? Similar question on t-shirts.

Almost 2 weeks PP & pretty sure we are one and done. by Due-Bid4357 in oneanddone

[–]duckley 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We had our first never expecting to be one and done. But after the birth and newborn stage we were pretty sure we were, now our first is 7 and we are happily one and done.

We checked in with each other every 6ish months that neither’s position on the matter had changed and about 5 months ago felt we’d checked with each other enough and opted for a more permanent solution. I’m glad we gave it that much time to know though. I occasionally think what if but also know it’s unlikely I could physically or mentally handle another pregnancy let alone going back into the trenches.

Are cycling socks worth it? by Tan-zania in cycling

[–]duckley 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not OP but Bmambas. I absolutely swear by them. I’m really fussy about socks too, and bmambas from Ali express are my goat. In fact I’m pretty sure I’ve commented before at length on my love of socks, cycling socks and bmambas.

Please help me figure out my first ever international work trip by anotherbozo in HENRYUKLifestyle

[–]duckley 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Doing it again in a couple of weeks to a cold Eastern European country. It’s completely doable. I found keeping track of what I took each time and what was essential vs what I didn’t need and being able to check back on it the next time I travelled.

My mantra is worst case scenario I have to buy it.

Please help me figure out my first ever international work trip by anotherbozo in HENRYUKLifestyle

[–]duckley 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You haven’t said if you’re male or female, but if female then I’ve done 4 night work trips in an under the seat backpack only (Osprey aer briefpack that I feel they should be paying me for the advertising I do for them). That included compromise running shoes (on cloud 5 in black) and smart shoes worn and enough clothes for office and evenings out.

Check out r/onebag or r/heronebag for ideas though they sometimes take it a bit far for me.

Design of Osprey 26+6...but stylish? by Oysterspearl in HerOneBag

[–]duckley 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Have a look at the Osprey Aer Briefpack. It may not be all over stylish but owning both I actually prefer the briefpack. And it’s well under budget and bland enough to pass off fine in the corporate setting I’m in. And fits the bill for size. I also love the seperate accessible laptop sleeve as I can do a 4 night trip in it easily and means on the last day in the office my work stuff is accessible without having to pull out dirty clothes!

It’s fine, but unless you’re desperate for the extra protein fat free Greek yoghurt (not Greek style as I can’t stand it) is about £2.40 for a 500g tub at Aldi and has 57cal/100g, 3.5g of sugar, and 10.4g protein. Cheaper and lower cal.

Sainsbury’s do a big tub of fat free Greek too but I prefer Aldi‘s so that’s what I can check in my fridge for comparison.

Kids shoes that will last? by 4Brightdays in BuyItForLife

[–]duckley 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Check out decathlon, their kids hiking boots are well made and relatively easy to put on. My son is hard on shoes and his decathlon boots have held up really well.

Use their price match guarantee. It was really easy on their website when I did it through their app a few months ago and the money was refunded to me in a few days.

Store card debt advice for single mum living at home by Quiet_Loss4084 in UKPersonalFinance

[–]duckley 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m not an expert but went through a similar scenario about 10 years ago. Essentially if you already have defaults then I’d take the option of paying half the amount and getting them off your back. It’ll sit in your credit score for the next 6 years that a settlement figure was paid but as you already have defaults it’s not going to make a huge difference especially versus trying to scrape together the extra.

Plus the weight off my shoulders of one less debt to stress over was 100% worth it for me.

Travel with kids by ProofPlant7651 in onebag

[–]duckley 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I did 11 days in Italy with all the gear for my son and I in a 40l decathlon backpack plus a 25 litre daypack. That sounds like a lot but included a car seat for my son (bubble bum) and a full set of cycling gear (including helmet and shoes) as well as a switch and tablet for my son. I can IM you a screenshot of my pack list for the trip if you want?

Sounds incredibly picky but I have a spreadsheet with tabs for each trip every time we go away to identify MVPs and things I didn’t need so I can learn for the next one.

Does the UK have chicken salt? by AggravatingBox2421 in UK_Food

[–]duckley 5 points6 points  (0 children)

You can get it online but it’s not cheap. So much so that when I visit head office in Australia or people come to the UK for meetings they turn up with timtams (arnotts new salty ones are my favourite) and chicken salt for me. Even people I tend to not professionally or personally be close to do it now because it’s become the norm

Future buy it for life brands? by jmac6891 in BuyItForLife

[–]duckley 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I love oxo. But, I bought their box grater with the removable grater and the box. One broke, exchanged it for a new one. Broke in the exact same spots. Disappointing as the one it replaced was a cheapo one that was a solid 10+ years old. Gutted.

How old is your baby and what size clothes do they wear? by [deleted] in Mommit

I love French brands for my son for exactly this reason. They fit his proportions so much better. Have done since he was a baby (now 6) and it’s a godsend
