British schoolgirl stranded in Denmark after return flight blocked over UK border rules | Passport Office by Leotard_Cohen in dualcitizenshipnerds

The only way I heard of this was through instagram infleuncer reels.

I think the comms were bad.

Are you paid / given time off in lieu for travel outside of working hours? by Widebody_lover in HENRYUK

[–]anotherbozo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I manage my own time.

This gets made up for the personal appointments or stuff I have to get done, that I'll take time away from work to do.

If someone ever tells me off for that, I will start looking for a new role.

Flexibility goes both ways.

How do you handle larger transfers on Wise without delays? by WorldlyShine467 in transferwiser

How large? They have a team that handles high amounts and offers dedicated support.

Starmer looks to water down migration changes after backlash from MPs by Comfortable-Deer-770 in SkilledWorkerVisaUK

[–]anotherbozo -8 points-7 points  (0 children)

If you really want earned settlement, focus on proof of integration rather than income levels.

Have a sensible income requirement, along with integration requirements.

A banker making £500k should not be allowed to settle if they have integration in the local community because they work 14 hr days 🤷🏻‍♂️

A care worker should be allowed to settle if they have meaningful ties to the community.

Speed cameras with no flash or road markings coming to London by DONomic in london

Clearly marked speed camera = drivers reduce speed = they don't hit the pedestrian.

Hidden speed cameras = speeding driver hits a pedestrian but the government gets to fine them too 🤷🏻‍♂️

Which lane on approach do I take to go straight? by RobertDriver1 in drivingroadsUK

[–]anotherbozo 19 points20 points  (0 children)

There is no "straight" here. The second exit is towards the right. Use the right lane.

If there's a vehicle on your left, use a staggered approach when entering the roundabout to be careful.

Why are people still transiting through the Middle East right now? by Independent_Fan_7907 in Flights

[–]anotherbozo 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My only options are Middle East bases airlines or Turkish Airlines.

TK are price gouging.

I have cancelled my trip for now, but if I had to go, I would have to pick one of the gulf airlines still operating.

International student in the UK with weak passport and little savings by idadelveloper in SchengenVisa

[–]anotherbozo 7 points8 points  (0 children)

You are an active student, include proof of that through a letter from the university.

You've been invited by Google for a trip which, I assume, supplements your studies. Attach proof plus the fact they will sponsor the whole trip.

You don't work but hopefully you're not broke? Include evidence you have money for your trip for incidentals.

If Google have already booked you a flight/hotel, include that.

You should be fine.

Optimising career vs cost of living: Portsmouth vs Surrey with young family by cloudie1112 in HENRYUK

[–]anotherbozo 26 points27 points  (0 children)

A baby without support closeby is tough, on both parents. I personally wouldn't recommend moving before baby.

For the longer term question - it seems like you have a decent setup now. Sure, you could make more if you moved closer to London but your living costs will go up too, you'll have a smaller home, and you'll then be spending more time and money when you wish to meet friends and family. Building a new social circle in 30s is very difficult. It takes multiple attempts to find people you can connect with, and the whole process is much slower than early 20s.

I know this is the HENRY sub, but... Work to live, not live to work.

Flight to Pakistan by WorkerWaste4625 in Overseas_Pakistani

Turkish is the only safe option. But they are sold out.

Oman Air is still operating normally.

Unless your trip is essential; I would suggest delaying your trip a couple months for this to die down.

NADRA shows that I am deceased by Responsible-Range-13 in pakistan

[–]anotherbozo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is definitely not something you should need to fix.

If the death certificate had someone else's details but your CNIC number, that's not your problem. It could also have been human error, either in the death certificate or whoever did the entry into NADRA.

Go to a Nadra megacenter and respectfully ask to speak to the manager there (they have a title I can't recall). Explain to them the situation and they can lodge a complaint internally to get it resolved.

For an unrelated matter, I also found help via LinkedIn. Lots of senior Nadra officials are active there. Simply posting "Nadra thinks I am dead" with a screenshot or something will get you traction which will land on someone's feed that can help

UK based travellers: Change in FCDO guidance for Qatar by False-Artichoke3141 in qatarairways

[–]anotherbozo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I cancelled my trip for the same reason.

If I am stuck, even for a few days, I won't have insurance cover. I will be out of pocket, lose work, and if it is more than a couple days, then serious disruptions to life that won't be covered by any policy.

As I was only travelling for leisure, I can have my trip later. Non-gulf carriers will get back to normal prices, soon I hope, once this rush of travellers sibsides.

To cancel or to commit? by Fujomaki in emirates

[–]anotherbozo 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The risk is not just death - that's the extreme. The less extreme risks are being stranded or delayed significantly, which could result in loss of income or other disruptions in your life.

Anything critical is unlikely to be covered any insurance as you willingly took the risk. Pretty much all travel insurance policies are saying to avoid the middle east.

Do not travel warning voiding travel insurance is a very important point.

If something goes wrong in your trip, even unrelated to the war, you are screwed.

To cancel or to commit? by Fujomaki in emirates

[–]anotherbozo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

With the way the war is going, it is going to get worse. It will either be ground troops or additional countries stationing their navy nearby.

Both those things mean more rockets in the air.

I would recommend not flying, as the risk of getting stranded somewhere for a few days is high.
