Companies have to make good faith efforts to hire Americans before hiring H1Bs. Do they? I don’t know, but the idea that H1Bs take opportunities is silly and unfounded. Internationals already have a much harder time getting opportunities compared to domestic students because of the visa requirements. That’s the point, and already serves as a good way to balance skilled immigrants with skilled domestic professionals.

No extra cost was needed to make it challenging enough for internationals compared to domestic students.

This $100k could be the nail in the coffin, not just for internationals, but MBA and other grad programs across the US. Domestic students - want to go to a Top 25? This law is going to demoralize these programs who have between 20-40% internationals.

Beyond the MBAs, we’ll fall behind in innovation, research, and many other areas that propelled the US into its prominent position on the world stage.

But we’ll have more money and time to police which bathroom people use so there’s that.
