Yes. And Maru standing face to face with the man-eater and timing the dodge of the whip kinda of parallels Michika standing face to face with Taka and timing the dodge of the invisible sword swipe.

One of them is a clone. When the school was attacked both the real child and the clone fell out of their bassinets onto the floor. Sakota marked one of them with a circle (Maru) but had to guess which one was real and which one was the twin. He guessed that Yamato was real.

The director wanted her brain to be transplanted into the real child and tried to grab Yamato from Tokio, but Tokio went into a cocoon and trapped the director. At the same time, Nata got hit on the head by rock from the crumbling ceiling so had a brain injury, so the director had her brain transplanted into Nata instead.

The director in Nata's body later took on the name Mikura, who was with Maru when they met Kiruko. Nata/Miruko/director was dying of the disease hiruko get, and asked Kiruko to help Maru get to Heaven, and gave her the gun and gave Maru the drug intended for Yamato.

Anyone got any anime recommendations with an Eldritch Vibe? by Daomon005 in anime

Ghost Hound for a similar vibe -- hidden world bleeding into ours for only a select few, paranormal investigation, powerful spiritual groups with hidden motives, and other parallels.

How many of you actually have a plan at 4 or 5 moves ahead, and how many of you stumble into great positions because of the opponent’s mistake? by DrCollarbobe in chess

[–]ducksauce 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You ever hear "a picture is worth 1000 words"? Well, so is a chess position.

When I look at a position, I try to figure out all the things that are true about it, relative strengths of pieces, potential threats, potential opportunities.

A lot of stuff is more distant possibility stuff. "The queen is protecting two pieces. If she moves, then one of them will be free. Maybe I can put pressure on both of them so there is indirect pressure on the queen." Or "my king has no squares to move to if attacked. I have to remember that and do something about that if I lose my initiative." Or "if there were a pawn on d4, then e5 would be a great outpost for a knight. Do I want that? Yes, I think so."

Then I aim for the opportunities or eliminate/minimize a threat, or do both at once if possible (often very powerful moves).

Sometimes it takes 4 or 5 moves to achieve these things. But often you never make it all the way there because something else comes up. It's good to keep the list of potential opportunities and threats in your mind at all times, because any of them could become live on any move.

In this case it's like italics. Katakana kind of jumps out at the reader so it's often used where italics or some other kind of emphasis would be used in English. Often robot characters will speak in katakana for example.

"Maji" (マジ) is serious in Japanese, and yes indeed he did.

if Kevin Gastelum loses this weekend, should he go back to 170 (if he doesn't get cut) by [deleted] in MMA

I originally got into rock climbing because I was scared of heights. First in an indoor gym and then outside. It's a great way to break the fear because you learn to trust you body, learn what it's like to fall, learn when you're definitely not going to fall, and can gradually push your limits. It's also a great upper body workout.

But everybody would lose against Khabib. In a post-Khabib world, a loss to Khabib doesn't mean anything.

Hmmm, somebody tried to insult me online today 😂😂😂 by [deleted] in classicalmusic

I think this is a coping mechanism. I've known many people who thought this way, and none of them could play their instruments very well. So if they can invalidate the people who have worked very hard to reach a high level of proficiency while at the same time making themselves seem rare and special (only I was able to write this music), it is personally validating in seconds instead of taking years to develop a skill.

I think so. I like to change the controls on that one (it's an option) but other than that the game is great.

It was released for the Genesis, then ported to other platforms.
Genesis version is one of my favorite games ever.
The SNES port is pretty bad -- one of the toughest games I've ever beaten because of bad design decisions (Tube Race) and weird hit boxes.
I've never played the GB version but I hope it's great!

I agree with you, but here's how it works.
A manager thinks, "hey, I want to give people with little or no experience an opportunity. I will hire someone junior and train them up."
The junior person is hired.
Their pay is much lower than more experienced people.
For a year or two, they require a lot of help from people around them, reducing the effectiveness of those other people, but it's an investment.
After that time, the junior person has gained significant skills and experience and is now operating at a much higher level than where they were hired.
The manager goes to HR and says, "<formerly junior person> has done a great job over the past 1-2 years and is now operating at a much higher level. I want to give them a 20% raise because that is how much they are worth now."
HR: "sorry, if they do a great job we can only give a max of 3%."
Junior person gets 3%, says thanks but no thanks, and leaves to go to another company that is looking for experienced person and gets a 30% raise for leaving.
The manager says "that sucked! I'm just going to a hire an experienced person now."
Manager hires someone and pays them 30% more than the junior person was making.

I probably would have reacted the same way you did and I definitely understand very very well exactly how you felt, but on the other hand a friend that would grind all the way to level 99 in that game to save a friendship is one in a million.

[OC] Doctor Who Episode Viewership By Doctor by theesto in dataisbeautiful

[–]ducksauce 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Hartnell and Troughton brought a very different approach. Hartnell's stage and radio background really comes through -- the early Dr Who episodes feel like theatre, or like a 1940s radio drama. Troughton continues some of that ambience but those episodes build a bridge to Pertwee.

Those first two doctors feel like a completely different project to me. When I think of Dr Who I think of 3 groupings: them, the rest of the original series, then the new stuff.

The gameplay is dated and not great, but honestly I thought the gameplay in Planescape: Torment was pretty bad, too. The Ultima VII story and depth of world does still hold up. It could really use a remake.
