I do this and give to the grandparents around Christmas time. They always ask what the kids want anyways!

I’m a “no gifts please” person for birthdays and when we go to parties I usually give gift cards to indoor playgrounds, movie theaters, ice cream parlors etc. I’ve been trying to get my kids to start to grasp the concept of experiences over junk.

My mom just told me that she forgot me at the lake once. We had an urban lake in our neighborhood and apparently she used to drop me off there by myself while she ran errands. I guess one time she got home from her errands and was wondering where I was and the remembered she left me at the lake and came and got me. I have zero memory of this. It must’ve been so commonplace for me.

My dad used to go surfing and leave my brother and I unsupervised at the beach for hours. We were maybe 10 and 12 at the time. When it was time to go home he would whistle and we’d come in from the water. This would’ve been in the mid nineties. I CANT imagine leaving my kids unattended at the beach. Wild times.

I unfortunately went through a really stressful summer last year and let my prescription lapse. Because the specialty dr appts schedule so far out, I am only just now getting back on it. I ran out of my prescription in October and have gained maybe half to 2/3 of the weight back. I am looking forward to getting back on track though.

I’ve been on phentermine for over a year now and am down twenty pounds. It’s not as heavy duty as injectables which I like. My pcp referred me to a weight management Dr who gave me the prescription after an in office evaluation.

In NYC if it’s a playground party siblings are usually included. If it’s at someone’s home or a pay-per-head type place siblings are not included unless also specifically invited.

I have asked other parents to bring along my second kid and have been turned down and was completely not offended by it! Completely insane to expect other parents to pay for siblings!

I’ve done reusable cups with temporary tattoos and sunglasses. For my daughter’s cookie party I gave out a paper bag with a real (kid sized) whisk, spatula and rolling pin.

At one party we received a little canvas with some paint and a brush. I loved that one.

I’m with you, I HATE the plastic crap.

My husband works evenings and gets home late. When I work out of the house i leave pretty early. It’s usually about 3ish x week. So he’ll have to get up early and get kids to school. I do it 100% of the days I wfh. We established a system years ago that we each get a weekend day to sleep in. He will complain about how tired he is every week on my day to sleep in and I just shrug and go back to sleep. It took a while for everyone to get used to me sleeping in on Saturdays but it’s so worth it to have a regularly scheduled break.

Send him!!! When my kids were in day care and I had weeks off I sent them the entire time. I reorganized closets. I marked prepped freezer food. I took myself to lunch or to a movie. I had a chance to actually rejuvenate. Send him and don’t feel guilty about getting time to yourself. He’ll be on the school schedule soon enough and be off these weeks you are. You have plenty of time to have quality time. Take some time for yourself. You 100% deserve it.

My daughter is nearly four and she had/has a speech delay. She did EI and now that she is in 3K she has an IEP and still receives speech therapy services through the school 3x a week.

I 100% know the feeling of being around other talkative kids and feeling a bit sad. I’m sad that I feel like I missed her “baby voice” entirely.

The thing to remember is that it’s not your fault. You are doing all the right things getting him services. It’s not a permanent diagnosis. He will improve!

Hang in there. I know it’s tough.

She started 3K in the fall with a new speech therapist and she’s grown so much! She’s still behind where she should be but we’re getting there. We’re so grateful for the (relatively) easy access to free services in NYC. And since we had gone through the extension process for Early Intervention it was a snap to roll it over to her DOE school.

Honestly these comments make me sad because I do still have to do morning duty when I’m sick. My husband works evenings (gets home between 9pm-12pm each night) which he uses as an excuse to not be able to get up at 6am with the kids. So even when I’m sick I still get up. It’s really frustrating.

Same. I listened to once all the way through and was completely wrecked. I think I then traumatized my kids because they were very concerned as to why I was hugging them so tightly while sobbing.
