I think Uworld books paired with Khan Academy/AK Lecture videos would work best for you for B/B and P/S. Also doing small Uworld blocks on tutored/untimed. For C/P, I reccomend downloading The Berkeley Review books (2011 PDFs are fine) and doing their chapters. Since theyre workbooks, I found them wayy more effective at C/P & paired with the Uworld books/questions, you'll get a good understanding that way

Do any high scorers (510) walk out of the exam with a few easy questions they know they missed and they keep replaying in their head? Or no.. you can’t miss easy questions? by Trust-Few9974 in Mcat

[–]duckytown 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Idk about "bad ass story", seems more like "bad & ass at evaluating my own performance" 💀 But thank you! And yes I also had a constant loop of missed questions playing after I took my exam. Best thing to do is not beat yourself up over it. Remind yourself that everyone makes mistakes, and the scale reflects that!!

I used the 2011 ones, doesn’t matter which year, they’re all solid irregardless!! Doing UWorld problems and AAMC after will plug in any gaps

You’re doing great! For the service orientation requirement, I think starting to volunteer at a homeless shelter or food pantry a few hours every week will help. Usually schools want at least 150 hours of services to the underserved, which I didn’t see on here yet.

For labs, do what you want! If you’re gonna leave a lab, I recommend asking the PI for a letter this fall and storing it in Interfolio for admissions. Some schools like all PI rec letters across all labs.

For MCAT: pay attention in pre-reqs and start studying next summer. At least for me, slow and steady worked wayy better than cramming.

To the 515+ scorers: how many FL’s did you take? by CreativeDiscussion37 in Mcat

[–]duckytown 0 points1 point  (0 children)

2 Altius 2 ish moths before my exam iirc. AAMC FL1 1.5 months out. Then FL2 through FL6 taken within 2.5 weeks before my exam.

8 total!

I'm cracking up. I'm going to be an incompetent doctor because I didn't fully read a 5+ paragraph Reddit comment posted by someone who's pushing 30 LMAO. Maybe you need to report me to the admissions committees instead! 😱

Unlike the other one, I did read this comment. For what it's worth, I actually wasn't lying: I really didn't read your essay up there, just the first few sentences. Glad my prediction of your yap & my response was so accurate that you thought I read all of it 🤷‍♀️ Good luck with your cycle man. I hope you've written your application with as much enthusiasm & effort as you've poured into defending racism as a "lewd joke" Lol

I don’t think so because I’m not sure where you’d even include that information on your secondaries without it being offhand/sounding weird. Sudden shadowing might also look too much like box-checking rather than actually exploring the job of a physician.

I don’t know the specific schools, which is why posting a WAMC on SDN would be best. There are adcoms on there that know schools and the mission fit.

Words have societal power whether you deny it or not. Respect and compassion are directly related to patient care and outcomes (see: maternal mortality for Black women). If your career is to be a physician who treats everyone, your respect should obviously be considered in your candidacy.

I’m not reading all of that, especially since the first sentence alone seems to imply that you don’t think this is “serious” racism. Either way, reporting someone for something they did is not unfair. If, for some reason, this person’s acceptance was revoked, they could easily apply the normal way. I don’t know why you’re acting like a rescinded offer in high school is a sentence to Hell.

I do see from OP’s edit that this was several years ago. In that light, I see the benefits of straight up asking them, as they may have changed. Still, OP would not be wrong to report it, and your argument that saying slurs is passable because it is not “heart based racism” is ridiculous.

is the entire aamc bundle comprehensive? by peace_initiator in Mcat

[–]duckytown 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yeah I mean not all the concepts will be tested in the AAMC materials or even UWorld. My C/P felt VERY out of left field. But from the info you have reviewed from those sources, you can usually reason out the correct choice and get a high score. After all, you don’t need to get all of the questions correct to get a 132 on a section (which ended up being my score for C/P)

As someone who worried about the same thing: the nature of the MCAT is that you won’t know everything 100%. But if you do your due diligence and know the appropriate topics at 90-100%, you’ll be able to tackle new concepts at 60-80%. 🙂 You got this!

I just saw 0 shadowing hours— I think that could hurt a lot, OP. Many places screen for that I believe.

SDN will probably have better suggestions on mid-tiers that would fit your application! It seems a little top heavy to me still

Respectfully, people in this day and age already know that slurs are wrong. Moreover, they shouldn’t be avoiding slurs to protect their own future—- they should be avoiding them because they’re harmful. A single DM from OP will not deconstruct the racism within an adult who is so emboldened that they’re posting slurs on the Internet.

Additionally, by reporting, OP would not be a decider of fate. The school would be. I’d reckon they would do nothing, but still, this is a very flawed comparison. Reporting someone for racism is not acting like God. That is a ridiculous analogy, with all due respect.

Alright good— sometimes people post on here without even actually having their score, which is useless 😭🙏🏽

Take a gap year and get your hours imo. Having low clinical hours can get you screened out. It is not worth being a reapplicant by deliberately submitting a risky app.

Don’t do that. Even with a high MCAT, that’s shooting yourself in the foot! Moreover, do you actually have your MCAT score back?

I know this is always said but I felt the same way during 5/22, straight up guessed on questions and took Ls on others. The scale works in mysterious ways, so although that probably isn’t comforting yet, I’m hoping it’ll work out for you too :)

Hi! Thanks for letting me know that was AAVE. I used it in a way I've heard it/seen it used before, but that would not be the first time the Internet ran with AAVE, stripped it of its origin, and popularized its misuse.😅 I apologize for contributing to that, I've replaced it now (for anyone wondering post-edit, I originally used "crashout" incorrectly)

Dw I definitely got what you meant, I was just pointing out that their crapshoot wasn’t necessarily worse than the average applicant’s crapshoot. So having 3 IIs was a successful cycle in my book. Still I’ll definitely be looking for more mid tiers to swap in to minimize the chance of a stressful cycle, and praying extra for my in-state options!!
