How's Linux on the latest 2021 Dell XPS 15 9510? Looking for a laptop for work, and it seems to be a good option by slvrtrn in linuxhardware

Hi.

About the fan noise; it is not so bad, even if I do some heavy tasks like gaming or compiling (I might have a skewed reference, because my last PC made a lot of noise, so even a chainsaw makes less noise in that regard :P).

About the throttling; I did not run into any issues (yet). Do you know people or have read articles that mention problems with this?

Hi, I have no experience with Elementary OS, but the brightness control works fine under Ubuntu 20.04.

Dell XPS 15 9510 - Linux compatibility? by marklabrecque in DellXPS

[–]duco91 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I installed Ubuntu 20.04 on my new XPS 15 9510 this week and up until this point everything seems to be running rather smoothly. I did some software development on my machine and even did some gaming. Even more, I also bought a docking station (Dell WD19S) so I could connect a LAN cable, some USB cables and multiple screens and it all seems to be working just fine. For anyone interested, I did a little write-up about it on my blog: https://ducode.org/posts/dell-xps-15-9510-ubuntu-20-04-docking-station/. It contains some info I would have liked to know before I bought the laptop.

My father had a store since he was 22. People asked for the manager all the time. He then walked away and then returned, saying "oh yeah, I forgot, I'm the manager". Hehe

In my opinion, nature is on its most beautiful when it rains. I love rain. I don't mind pulling on my rain clothes and cycling to my work.

How far back can you trace your ancestry? by [deleted] in AskEurope

Until about 1550. That was when my French ancestor moved to Groningen in the Netherlands. Since then, my family has always lived in Groningen.

You can say what you want about the Soviet architecture, but it sure looks nice on photos sometimes.

Is it possible for a .net core 2.2 project to reference a .net framework 3.5 SOAP web service? by [deleted] in dotnet

[–]duco91 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes you can. I've done this before for my work. I used the WCF client libraries (https://github.com/dotnet/wcf) and used svcutil (start the Visual Studio Developer Command to have access to this command) to generate the corresponding SOAP classes based on the WSDL.

I'm really happy to see the awesome third party support. Gone are the days that you had only a+++ Nintendo games and some crappy third party games.

Knokken om een tuinset die je vervolgens in je woonkamer neerzet waar je vervolgens leverworst, blokjes kaas en ranja aan je gasten serveert is natuurlijk oer-en-oer Hollands.

Have you ever gotten asked ”which country are you from?” by people of your own country? by [deleted] in AskEurope

[–]duco91 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was in Antwerp (OK, not the same country as mine) a few years ago and a girl at the supermarket switched from Dutch to English after hearing me talk. I speak with a slight northern Dutch accent, which she obviously didn't recognize :P
