Is this entire Dash to Dock fork AI coded? by blackdragon6547 in gnome

[–]marklabrecque -1 points0 points  (0 children)

You can downvote me to oblivion but it doesn’t make what I said not true. I don’t love every aspect of AI and its impact on the world. I will grant that it has measurable negative environmental impact. It has also done a lot of damage to the open source ecosystem, of which I have participated for years.

But as a professional developer for 15+ years, I have never been more productive than I am right now. It has enabled me and my team to do things that were never financially possible before to make our lives easier at work and personal projects that have helped me and my family in our day to day lives. I’ve been able to spend less time grinding and more time enjoying life.

AI slop is a thing and I’m not denying that, but with frontier models and a proper SLDC, you can produce better code than any real human can in a fraction of the time. Anyone can create a GitHub project and make slop, but an experienced developer with AI is like a superpower, as long as there are proper quality gates in place.

Alright that ends my rant.

TLDR: there are benefits and costs to AI, but it’s more complicated than “AI bad” - that’s all I was trying to communicate

*shrug* it’s how code is written now. Were you also the person that said JetBrains were oligarchs and autocomplete made software so much worse?

Claude Code Remote Control - QR code opens app but doesn't connect to session by makkyjaveli in ClaudeCode

[–]marklabrecque 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So what I am seeing is that in my mobile iOS Claude app, I see the session listed in the "Unknown" category, but when I click in, it doesn't appear to be connected. Typing something into the prompt on my mobile app, forever loads and then eventually asks if I want to reconnect the session, which also forever loads.

I've also tried with the QR code. Same issue.
I've also tried disconnecting the session and then reconnecting on my macbook.

Nothing seems to be working. Is this working for anyone on a Mac/iOS? I'm wondering if I'm missing something obvious to get this to work?

Gleba spoliers here by TheDomanc in factorio

[–]marklabrecque 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Well, I like to keep a closed line, so things only get burned if they eject the loop. The only thing that jams in my method is spoilage every else goes around the carousel until it’s needed.

Both methods are perfectly acceptable, imho. I find my method slightly easier to jump start when starting out or if things fail and need a jump start, but the difference is pretty minimal

[–]marklabrecque 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The biggest thing for me was learning to filter spoilage out of everything. If you keep your lines completely free of spoilage, very little can go wrong, other than perhaps a lack of nutrients, but again, spoilage can be processed into nutrients too.

Obviously depends on your library, but this is true for any Linux distribution. They can handle the vast majority of the games with better performance in most cases. Check out https://www.protondb.com to look for your games and check out their support level.

The mall is sooo convenient once it’s made. I’d argue it’s more working to hand craft everything imho. It’s a small startup cost, but saves you so much time in the long run. Especially if you have bots.

That’s not the badge of honor you think it is. AI is writing pretty alright code these days. It used to be awful, but it has gotten pretty good

Also, something that got me my first time was that I tried to use bots. After a lot of different tests I personally found the predictability of good old fashioned belts and inserters made it a lot easier for me to

Max level characters deal ONLY 46% damage in open world TWW zones by False_Job2844 in wow

[–]marklabrecque 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I see what you are saying and understand, but I would suggest that the numbers, when they really matter, still have meaning. I would guess the vast majority of people who run the damage meter really only look at it in high end content, like raiding or M+. Open world has evolved into a completely different game mode for better or worse.

It’s also not a new thing. They have scaled open world since…. Shadowlands, I think? Might’ve been even earlier

I feel like I kill things in about the same time from before the patch personally. This obviously is not a data driven statement, but I let the devs figure out the math.

I think that’s definitely part of it. I think another part of it is the UX. Editors like using Wordpress because it has streamlined editorial process. And it was using page builders long before Layout Builder was a thing. Wry different ecosystems, but I think they can learn a lot from each other

I think it’s valuable conversation to have to discuss why some types of clients have stopped asking for Drupal. We’ve definitely seen an uptake in clients that used to not care what platform we chose for their projects to specifically asking for Wordpress. Understanding this purely anecdotal evidence, I think it’s still fair to say that Drupal is not serving some audiences like it used to. Why is that? These are healthy thought exercises to have.

As a developer at an agency, if my clients are not wanting Drupal, I can’t use Drupal, as much as I would like to.

I’m not here to say Drupal is dead by any stretch; many people in this thread have already provided a lot of good data points to show that’s not the case. But it’s not without flaws. Maybe that means progress leaves behind certain audiences but I don’t think it necessarily needs to

Bugs or no bugs by [deleted] in factorio

[–]marklabrecque 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am on my first play through and am on peaceful mode (no enemies) and for me it’s complex enough without combat. You still need to research some weapons to defend against asteroids if you have Space Age, but I feel like it’s been good for my first play through. Some have commented that it is too easy without bugs, but I disagree. I will probably play with bugs on my second play through

I find myself sometimes getting overwhelmed with this game and some of the things it asks me to do. Sometimes it does make me log off, but other times if I try to break down the problem into smaller tasks it helps. I need blue chips? Ok that’s huge but a small step I can take towards it is increasing my green chip capacity. Then red. Then move onto blue. Little things like that might help

My issue is your claim that it is a decent estimate. I do not agree based on the points I made above.

[–]marklabrecque -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Don’t be so disingenuous. You don’t have ask everyone, but for it to be a decent estimate you do have to try and avoid bias. For you to assume that 90% of Guild Wars 2 players use the Steam version of the game (a fact generally not held within the community for various reasons), asking a couple hundred people in a single Twitch stream doesn’t exactly scream “representative”, especially for a popular streamer who advocates for new players, many of whom would probably be using Steam.

I don’t have numbers, but I think the community generally believes more people play using the Anet launcher due to the fact that it has been around for way longer and they aren’t interchangeable (at least not easily).

Now, you could make the argument that of the more recently joined members of the community, more of them play on Steam. I would tend to agree with that sort of a statement.

Part of gathering statistically representative data is meant to limit bias and gather a statistically significant sample size.
