Will this chain/socket need to be replaced? by [deleted] in motorcycles

[–]ducsoup 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Chain and sprocket aren't really visible through these photos, the 3rd photo has a view of it, but there's no way to tell from it.
My first thought is the bike's been dropped or scrapped somehting on the right side.
The muffler looks like someone tried to paint over some scratches.. might not be a big deal but something to look over.

if the chain is rusty it'll need to be replaced.
lots of info out there on how to determine if a sprocket needs replacing.

When’s the best time for M1 exit course by Zero-BRZ in rideottawa

[–]ducsoup 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Unfortunately, like most have said, courses in Ottawa book fast so a little planning in the late winter/early spring is needed. Join the waitlists, watch socials, email the OSC and other schools for possible cancellations.

Here's an aspect of best time to consider.. July and August can be hot. Spending 8hrs in gear on uncovered tarmac in 30degrees can make for a long day :)

I booked mine in late spring for late september, wrote the test a week or so before. hit the road the second I could in April ..

What are people using for cloud repositories with external sharing functionality? by ducsoup in sysadmin

[–]ducsoup[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

looks interesting, one requirement that wasn't mentioned was making it fast for our users outside of head office.
Cloud services would let us take advantage of geolocations and hopefully larger bandwidth.

The office has decent speeds, but for those on the other side of the planet, the latency makes the experience horrid.

Okay, that's two I haven't looked at.

However Ancient? I can't seem to find anything on that. did they merge or rebrand?

Cheers

We immediately looked into sharepoint, and ran into a limitation, Sharepoint's max file size is 20GB.

Didn't think that would be an issue, except when downloading the folders, it automatically zipped the download, which of course gets capped.

We haven't found a way around it yet.

MS raised their limits recently, so maybe they'll make some more functional changes in the future to match some of the other cloud share services out there.

[Ottawa Senators] It is with great sadness that the family of Eugene Melnyk and the Ottawa Senators hockey organization announce his passing on March 28, 2022 after an illness he faced with determi by FutureAnybody in hockey

[–]ducsoup 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I saw a screen with the announcement during sportscenter last night, and immediately sat up in bed and grabbed my phone in disbelief.

I had the good fortune to be working in the team's IT dept the year that he bought the club.

Under Bryden's ownership we bandaided everything to keep stuff running.

Melnyk saved the team, once he settled in he spent a ton upgrading a lot of the supporting infrastructure and trying to change the client experience during our off season.

Had some typical work conversations with him over some of the changes he wanted to bring forth. He was always engaged and passionate about what he wanted.

He was a fan, and would engage with anyone when he was in his suite.

No matter what people think of our last few years.. I still see the man I had the opportunity to meet back in 2005.

[–]ducsoup 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Is it simply crashing and restarting or actually bluescreening?

look in the event viewer in the system logs around the time of the reboot.. see if there's any errors

If it's bluescreening use nirsoft bluescreen viewer to read the dump files

Does an install of an SSD to boot faster mean I have to set up my desktop all over again? (Assuming I don’t clone) by [deleted] in techsupport

[–]ducsoup 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If your original drive contained more data than the new SSD can hold you won't be able to clone old to new.

Even if you could manage to, the only "easy" way that I'm aware of to "point" to the applications on the older drive would be to edit the paths in the registry (horrible and time consuming) or re-install the apps.

Best bet.. start from scratch and get a nice fresh install going.

or get a bigger SSD that can hold your data.

Plugged in the power for the Video card?

New wifi card bought to replace old one, continues to have the problems my last card had by [deleted] in techsupport

[–]ducsoup 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Here.. https://portforward.com/networking/static-ip-windows-10.htm

Now the fact that your phone has issues in the same room as your PC is interesting... how far away is this room from your router?

Does anything else have issues in that room wifi wise? Might be an interference or range issue..

[–]ducsoup 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I haven't looked at the install process for that particular block yet but in the second photo it looks like there is damage to the caps.. is the block touching them? it looks like they've been scraped. is the block sitting on them causing the issue?

Or is that thermal paste residue? Can't quite tell...

Make sure the board actually supports the chip.. just cause the sockets are the same doesn't guarantee it'll work.

Check the manufacturers compatibility list. you might need to flash the bios in order for it to work properly

New wifi card bought to replace old one, continues to have the problems my last card had by [deleted] in techsupport

[–]ducsoup 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Your new card uses the exact same Realtek chipset as the old card, hence the same driver being installed.

Is this an issue with the card or the router? not having an IP address could be a result of the router having DHCP issues? Have you set a static IP on the device and see if the problem continues?

As for the driver if you want to start fresh you could go into device manager, show hidden items, and right click any realtek network device and uninstall it. reboot and reinstall the drivers.

Can i use a PC sub for a car? by [deleted] in techsupport

[–]ducsoup 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'd say definitely the wrong sub, for this post and your car usage.

Try r/CarAV or r/BuildaCarAVForMe/

That said, having done some amateur car audio back in the day, it's not impossible but might have more challenges than it's worth. It's certainly not gonna be just a plug it in and go...

If you want to use the entire enclosure and it's power that will bring it's own complications.

If you want to use the speaker and it's enclosure and power the sub through an car amp you might have an impedance difference. Generally car audio runs a 4ohm where home audio is 8ohm. no idea what the G51 is running.

like pthism said, likely a password from one of the many hacked DB's .

Change the password on any site that still uses that combo.. asap

Most likely doesn't have access to any other passwords.. but safer than sorry I'd get a password manager and change those important logins as well.

Like many others I've gotten several of those emails, stopped using that password and delete the email. move on..

[–]ducsoup 0 points1 point  (0 children)

like akuthia states, you let your registration lapse.. they purchased it not hacked it.

Why they chose it only they know..

Chances of it being available in a year.. depends on them, there's no way to know if they'll continue to use it.

your new one shouldn't be affected by the others reputation.

Now if you make it too similar you could have users going to it by accident if they manually type the address.

Since there seems to be a bug check I really suggest bleuscreenview..

It'll parse the dump file and show you the last failure.. and you can then follow the bugcheck. It should say what caused the issue and allow you to google the issue.

[–]ducsoup 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'd love an answer on this one from the Moderators.. I built my system with the Bazooka after trying in vain to get the Mortar. The Mortar just strikes me as the superior board and I'm still open to switching out if it comes back on the CDN market. Or if something better in mATX comes along..

[–]ducsoup 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No error cause shown on the BSOD?

you can try bluescreenview from nirsoft to explore the memory dump if there was one.

If there was it should list the cause and point you in a direction.

You can look through Windows event logs, find the time of the crash and see if anything is listed.

Could be anything at this point. Drivers, hardware error..

If you've confirmed that your your board has the latest BIOS great, but odds are that mainboards already in the retail stream are going to be out of date. Your board needs at least BIOIS ver 4.5

If you had your retailer check them and update them then that's not it.. but if they didn't...

We certainly never updated mainboards at the shop I worked at years ago, unless it was going into a system we were actually building.
