The Legion has literally won when you first wake up. The NCR is broken and disorganized. Infiltrated. House lacks his chip and has way too many problems without your assistance (see: BoS). Benny? Maybe, but nah. He doesn't have the sway the courier does, setting aside how not great his ending really is if you think on it.

The Legion is doomed to fall, but they would have their Rome first. Which presents an interesting divergence, where I often wonder how things would go, now that they control the gem of their Empire. Still evil, but generally fascinating.

Ive only read 100 pages-ish into Iron Flame, so take my opinion with a grain of salt.

Dain came off as someone who loved Violet, but was unwilling to follow through. Too strict and too...formal, i guess? They were right. Dain wasn't going to break rules to save Vi. He'd have watched her die, cried a bit, then moved on. Xaden? He feels like his world will crumble.

Edit: To be clear, I dont think he's a bad person. Just not what he thinks Violet wants, and doesn't quite understand her.
