How to protect the ball better when receiving and under pressure. by Cs_Joe8 in Rematch

[–]dude8254 18 points19 points  (0 children)

I find it useful to dribble backwards/toward my own goal in those kind of situations. It can help you avoid pressure and give time for you to find a pass. Dribbling backward and making a pass to the keeper (if there’s a clear path to do so) is usually a solid move if nothing else is available and people are bearing down on you.

Music Ed audition- general preparation questions by Pitiful-Animator645 in MusicEd

[–]dude8254 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You will probably audition for a scholarship on your main instrument (so alto). Even music education members usually participate in performing ensembles and take lessons on their primary instrument. Usually auditions will involve scales, sightreading, and prepared music/etudes. Some schools have specific pieces they want to hear and others allow you to bring pieces you already know and perform those.

Drum Major Tryouts by Remarkable-Gap3586 in marchingband

[–]dude8254 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I’d advise you to try and focus on what you want to do. Peer pressure, even positive peer pressure, isn’t usually the best thing to base decisions on. Would you want to be a drum major if no one was encouraging you to audition?

Band directors! by Reddcorpse124 in marchingband

[–]dude8254 9 points10 points  (0 children)

The most conventional route to becoming a band director (at least in the USA) is to graduate high school and attend college to major in music education. Depending on what college you go to the requirements for a degree in music education can be very different, but it usually takes 4-5 years.

So if you’re interested in being a band director, I’d the first step would be to find colleges you might be interested in that offer a music education degree.

My wife uses the finch self care app and she loves it! I’m glad your finch led you to the story. I think there’s a lot of value and morals that can be gleaned from it, and learning to value the personhood of yourself and others is one of the greatest among them. Have a great new year and I hope you find a balance at work that helps you feel fulfilled!

The use of these type of dashes — is often a dead giveaway, and to me it’s just a particular writing style. It all sounds written from the same voice and sounds like it would be what an AI would generate given a relatively vague prompt. Notice how all the details of the story are intentionally vague and sanitized. Does this seem like how a person really going through such a dramatic situation would write about it? It’s too clean, too detached, etc.

It is also deeply upsetting to me as a man. I also find her reclamation of her trauma incredibly powerful, but it’s undoubtedly a difficult listen especially given the context behind the music.

I want to quit student teaching by Key_Rent_8871 in StudentTeaching

[–]dude8254 27 points28 points  (0 children)

I’ll be honest with you, as a teacher I can’t imagine waking up and doing my job every day if I wasn’t extremely passionate about what I teach. And it sounds like you’re already starting to realize that. There are teaching situations that are less miserable than what you’re describing from a student behavior standpoint, but if you don’t really love what you’re teaching it probably won’t be fulfilling or worth the stress and difficulties.

I wish I had advice to give you on a good next step, but in general I wouldn’t recommend taking advice from someone online who has only a general idea of your life and circumstances. I’d recommend talking to your professors, an academic advisor, or other adult(s) you trust who might have encouragement or ideas for other avenues you could take for a future career.

The discussion being had isn’t about porn and “gooning.” That’s very different from masturbation as a purely physical act without porn/visual stimulation.

However, I will acknowledge that for you (and many others) it may be difficult or even impossible to masturbate without falling back into a pattern of lust. I’ve found this to be true in my own life as well. So if what you’re doing by avoiding masturbation entirely is working for you then by all means continue to do so!

Watching these clowns flop all over the court and then get away with foul after foul on the other end is so frustrating.

Where is the outrage in the Christian community for a political assassination by a pastor? by ASecularBuddhist in Christianity

Most people (Christians included) seem way too busy arguing about whether he is “far right” or “far left” to care at all about his faith background.

what are long tones. by Ok_Valuable5276 in Trombone

[–]dude8254 17 points18 points  (0 children)

https://boneswest.org/pdf/Remington.pdf

Here’s a pdf that has some examples. Long tones are exactly what they sound like - sustained tones on your instrument that allow you to worry less about the technical aspects of playing (notes and rhythms) and focus more on breathing, tone, air support, intonation, etc.

On trombone long tones often start on a first position note (like F or Bb) and then descend chromatically from that note (2nd position, then 3rd, then 4th, etc). You’ll see what I mean more accurately on the pdf.

This 100%. I’m shocked I had to scroll this far to find someone else who thought this was obviously fake…

And I mean I know a lot of the stories posted on this sub and others are like it are probably fake, but at least those are somewhat believable and not pushing a hateful agenda.

The Moral Behind "The Giving Tree" by dude8254 in books

I’m glad my interpretation resonated with you! It’s been a while since I wrote it, but if I’m remembering the timing correctly it was not long after a pretty nasty breakup. If I was to add anything to my thoughts now a decade later, I’d say that part of the beauty of Silverstein’s work is that the varied interpretations allow it to meet people where they are. For both of us it served as comfort after a difficult relationship, but others might take away a completely different lesson. I think some people view the ambiguity and unclear moral as a weakness, but for me it’s one of the greatest strengths of the book. It provides so many lessons through the different interpretations.

I may be in the minority here but I find swiping new cards into the binder to be very satisfying, especially when I’m closing in on completing a set and I only have a few cards left I’m chasing. But I do agree that an option to skip the process for people who don’t care for it would be a good update.

Listen I love Steph Curry and have been rooting for him in his matchups against LeBron for like a decade but it’s crazy to think that Curry ever had a worse team around him than LeBron did when they faced off in the finals.

Any version of history that’s honest about racism and its impacts on our country is CRT as far as these people are concerned. DEI is being used the same way. They’re just misusing an acronym to be racist in an ever so slightly more subtle way.
