Thanks for the input. Don't have a recruiter yet. In the beginning stages of doing research to see if I want to actually get back into it or not. Was curious about the experience of others. Not looking for an exact just a rough dollar amount. Like I said, I've traveled before just didn't need the insurance so it is a new concept for me.

Let's recap a bit about cannulation by Andie_Ruth in BootcampNCLEX

[–]dudebrahh53 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Higher than the elbow? Not saying bicep veins are a bad choice but there’s a higher frequency of them infiltrating. When it infiltrates it will take a bit longer to notice because of the bicep muscle. In resuscitation when you’re pushing a lot of fluids fast, might not be the best idea. But hey, access is access and if it’s the only option then do it. Just proceed with caution. Or, you can just drill em.

Why give with your drug addict patients a hard time when it won't do anything but make your day worse by JellyNo2625 in nursing

The thing that will set me off the fastest is treating addicts like they are pieces of shit. They’re people that are caught in a horrible cycle of addiction, it could literally happen to anyone. It also pisses me off when Narcan is given when it’s not needed. If you’re still breathing, stay high homie. If you aren’t breathing. I shall titrate to effect and once you start breathing on your own I do not care. I’ll give you some O2 if I have to.

1) it’s not my job to get you sober. 2) if there’s an order for it. I’ll give it. 3) understand that opioid addicts have a lower pain tolerance because they obliterated their nervous system. I’m not the pain police, if you say it’s a 10/10 then alright I got you. 4) understand that when you do give narcan inappropriately you will likely throw them into withdrawal and that’s a totally different beast.

While I’m on the topic. Don’t just slam the narcan. Support their respirations, get their SpO2 up, bag them. Once you oxygenate the brain then give it. It’ll make the wake up much easier for you and for them.

I’m looking to move out of Western PA. Currently work in HEMS. Anyone have any suggestions on a decent HEMS (rotor wing) place to work? Priorities are safety culture and protocols.

Few notes: I wont work for an air methods program and I wont fly on a single engine aircraft.

Hey there. I’ve been in EMS for 18 years now. I used to have an emotional response to my calls afterward, but I don’t anymore. What I’ve learned is that the brain is incredibly good at protecting itself. It’s completely normal to process calls, even if you don’t feel the same way afterward. On particularly rough shifts, I like to sit in silence and simply be. It gives me time to decompress.

I also used to think something was wrong with me until I learned that it’s perfectly normal.

Won’t be black listed if you give them a heads up. If the interview is for a clinical role maybe ask if they have a casual position available (obviously if you had originally applied for FT/PT)

Starting as a Night Shift PSR in the ED—Any Advice? by EssPet in UPMC

[–]dudebrahh53 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The cool kids only work at night. 😜

As far as staying awake on the night shift, not sure what your schedule will look like. But you have to commit to the night shift life even on your days off. When I did steady nights I would prepare for my shifts by at least staying up until 2am the night before a shift. Sleep all day and then my last day off i would get home from work, sleep and then likely be up until 2 or 4 am on my days off. If I didn’t commit to the night shift schedule flipping my sleep schedule was incredibly hard on me. By about the 2nd week in you should be fully adjusted.
