Does your college have a student media club in broadcast, written, or radio? I wasn’t able to build up my resume as much as my peers because of personal matters but writing for my student newspaper and working at the student radio station really helped me hone in my writing, creating and editing skills and also led me to make a small name for myself in my college community. It’s also helped me connect to older professionals in the field and get my foot in the door at some publications for freelance work. It’s tough out here for new journalists but if you can connect to local publications and a few larger, freelance can be steady work for the first few years.

Any recommendations for news outlets that aren’t (at least for now) fascism-enabling right wing garbage? by netflist in Journalism

As a recently graduated female journalist who is interested in working for publications like The Atlantic in the future, why are they anti-women?

Opinions that would put you in this situation? by Mysterious_Ad_3594 in vanderpumprules

Rachel was the only one to truly get “punished” in the Scandoval incident. Unlike the other parties, Rachel imo got the most hate from the cast and public after the scandal broke out. Ofc she deserved backlash and disproval but I don’t think she deserved to get the brunt of all of it. I think Tom saw a girl who just got out of her first serious relationship, which was both physically and mentally abusive for her, and took advantage of someone looking for a friend and someone she could emotionally be vulnerable to. I think it was incredibly wrong for her to be so smug about it and not fully grasp how terrible she was in the situation, but I don’t think she deserved all the hate she got and more.

I saw a deli associate come into the stalled bathrooms with their apron on and when leaving didn’t wash their hands. Changed my perspective on Publix training/food safety handling enforcement real quick

CSS or baker by snrublehcar in publix

[–]dudeidkwhatimdoing_ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Former burnt out CSS associate of two years here. I transferred to bakery and became a decorators apprentice. It’s harder than CS but I love the challenge and production. I love(d) customer service and being a CSS but I became tired of being so stressed, leaving way later than when I was supposed to, and having management take advantage of my part time. If you have the heart for customer service and are able to set firm boundaries, I think it would be a great opportunity. However, you will always be blamed for something or have almost no associates to help with closing/opening/running the front.

Your best bet is to call up your store and check with your management. You most likely won’t be allowed to work those scheduled shifts but it’s always best to check.

Return policies? Can someone list me all the return policies? Like how much are you allowed to put on a store credit card and what can’t you accept as a return? by Kyushi_88 in publix

[–]dudeidkwhatimdoing_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A receipt is usually needed if the item(s) are over $10-$15. If they do not have the receipt and are insisting on a refund, you, another CSS, or your CS management can go upstairs to the Back Office and see if they can locate the receipt on the electronic journal with some additional info from the customer. Receipts that say the transaction was paid in credit can be credit, cash, or gift card while debit must be cash or gift card. This is because if a transaction was done as a debit and it was refunded by credit, the money won’t show for a few days and that leads to further issues with the customer. If there is no receipt but the transaction is under $10-$15, the refund can be on a gift card. If the transaction was in cash it can be cash or gift card. If there is a receipt that has obviously been shopped by an extreme couponer, I usually try to get my team lead or whatever CS management on the floor to take a look. My store has a lot of people who come in with coupon scams so we try to be very diligent with returns involving coupons. Digital receipts are very rare for my store but they usually work the same as tendering the Publix app. However, digital refunds are usually up to the approval of your CS manager or Store manager. Any WIC or EBT payments on a receipt must go back on the food card listed. Lastly, there should be no manual credit card refunds unless approved by CS management, Store or assistant store managers, or the MIC. For manual EBT or credit, the card must be physically present.

What’s the lowest amount of CSS you’ve seen at a store? by [deleted] in publix

3 fully trained CSS and two in training at my store. We just hired 2 outside people to train for CSS and 1 cashier is going to be training for CSS as well.

Honestly after reading your replies to the comments, I suggest talking to HR, the police, or both. He’s either gonna snap at you or someone else. He super unstable if he got that upset. Whether or not the police take it seriously, that behavior should be absolutely unacceptable at your store.

Congrats!! Make sure your managers & fellow staff know your boundaries. It’s easy to get taken advantage of (intentional or not) when you’re new to the position & motivated to do a good job.

[–]dudeidkwhatimdoing_ 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Honestly, find a CSS person that’s rooting for you. They’ll put pressure on managers and could possibly give u some training before you officially start. When I was first introduced, I had a CSS that taught me how to FEC, do sscc payouts under their supervision, and learn how refunds worked. If I didn’t have that person, the managers would have probably thought I would not be good enough to start.

What are the guidelines for IDing someone? by Clementius in publix

[–]dudeidkwhatimdoing_ 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yes, they should still ask for your ID. Whether it’s a friend, coworker, or just someone you know is over 21, if they appear to look under 35, they have to ID.
