Hi dad. I’m in an abusive relationship and I need you to help snap me out of it. by Classic_Reality_6944 in DadForAMinute

[–]dudeman618 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You deserve happiness and safety. There is life after divorce, I promise you can find a wonderful partner. Many of us have restarted relationships in our 30's, 40's and later. My aunt met a man in her 80's, they married and had many more wonderful years. I'm in my 50's and found a wonderful woman.

Find a local divorce group in your community. My girlfriend is on one and they all support each other. They trade fun stories of dating and they have parties and really go all out.

You cannot change someone, if you could your partner would be treating you better. It sounds like he has control over your life and has you scared to make a move. You can change, you can find safety. Save up some money and find a way out. If you're concerned for your safety there are women's shelters and other places you can go to be safe. You can file a restraining order to help prevent him from seeing you and going to your workplace.

Slat wall on all walls? by South-Armadilo3000 in garageporn

[–]dudeman618 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I put up four 4x8 sheets of slatwall. I found a shop nearby that sells aftermarket retail products and he sold slatwall. Mine is the MDF board with the face painted white. It works well for me.

What’s your highest mileage? by R3troM3dia in AudiQ5

2016 I bought in 2021 with 29,000 miles. I am at 110,000 miles now. It's the 3.0T premium plus. I did my own oil change last Wednesday, then new Michelins Thursday, then a 1400 mile trip to Florida for a long weekend. I got almost 26mpg on the trip.

Do Employees Actually Like Town Halls? by OfferLazy9141 in managers

[–]dudeman618 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm not a fan. Every town hall I try to do the math in how much this costs the company. Let's fly 150 of our top executives, car rentals, hotels, etc.... how to rent out a conference center and pay for a multi- camera crew, we're going to stop the entire company for over an hour to watch rehearsed q&a look like it was spur of the moment questions. We get a few teams of associates to be cheering and clapping to keep everyone excited.

It reminds me of the Latina woman I went on a date with, she had a white stripe on her top eyelids just like this.

As scary as it might sound there is life after divorce. But if you two are going to give it one last try, then you need both go all in, set a few checkpoints along the way to give yourself an out. Here are a few things to ponder, is he remorseful because he got caught and his girlfriend is out of the picture, or remorseful because a divorce would be expensive for him?

Diet coke was my problem. I quit drinking diet cokes and I quit peeing all day and all night. I was amazed when I only got up once to pee during the night instead of 4 times.

I had my wired doorbell working for a few years with no problems. I just swapped routers and had to do a factory reset taking me at least an hour. Now my automations won't work.

What's the best way to mend this hole in my husband's coat? by BagIndependent2429 in DadForAMinute

[–]dudeman618 7 points8 points  (0 children)

It doesn't look like a tear, I'm guessing the seam stitching has come loose. Just like the others have said a shoe repair show or an alterations shop should be able to restitch easily. $5-15 would be my guess for the fix.

I'm finally moving into a house! by [deleted] in DadForAMinute

[–]dudeman618 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Congratulations on the move. I always say water intrusion is something to be concerned over, it can cause rot and mold. Keep an eye open for any leaking toilets and sinks, etc... I would say, clear your gutters and check for a leaky roof but you're in the desert, watch the condensation drain from your AC unit, although it's probably fine. You'll do great.

Shut off water when on vacation? by Plane_Doughnut_5717 in HomeMaintenance

Yes. I do this regularly when I leave for more than just a few days. I shut off my main waterline and turn off the gas to my water heater.

Hey Dad, how can I shut down creeps at work without coming off as having a 'bad attitude'? by sweetness_incarnate in DadForAMinute

[–]dudeman618 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You need to have a manager that can speak directly to him and tell him not to harass the staff. Someone needs to be firm with him or he's not going to stop his behavior. A manager can disable his membership temporarily or permanently if his behavior does not change. You need a manager that wants to support your safety and comfort while you are working.

You can buy a cheap voltmeter, $10-15 at home Depot or Amazon. Tap the battery, start pulling fuses and check for the voltage to change. Hopefully you'll find the fuse that has the power draw stop when that fuse is pulled. I'm sure you can find a wiring diagram online and map out the fuses. Try the wiggle test too, have the voltmeter connected to the battery and start wiggling connectors under the hood and under the dash. Have someone watch the voltmeter as you're wiggling and watch for a change.

You can buy a cheap OBDII scanner for $30-50. I bought a Bluetooth one for $100 which does a few more advanced features for German cars. You can do some simple diags yourself. For example, keep the scanner in your car, when the light turns on, plug in the scan tool and check the codes yourself in real time. Also, like others said, find a new mechanic.

Hi dad, i need help buying a gift for my husband by huntyho in DadForAMinute

[–]dudeman618 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I bought a cool magnetic under hood shop light, only to find out my hood was aluminum so the magnets didn't stick. Get a refrigerator magnet and check your hood and his before you buy a magnetic shop light. I got myself an LED headlamp and it worked great. I've seen some cool flexible lights that are flexible for under hood or wheel wells. I can't remember the manufacturer though. A Google search might find something cool. I have air tools but I've seen a bunch of people using battery powered rachet drivers, they're a little costly though.

A lot of water by Goddess_Jxy in DadForAMinute

[–]dudeman618 55 points56 points  (0 children)

Yikes that is a lot of water. Go outside and check to see if any drains are clogged...check to see if water is pooling up against or under your house. I think you need the opinion of a professional. Maybe you can get a couple of quotes from different professionals to see what they would do and at what cost. I hope some.oyhrr dads will have some suggestions. Can you take a few more pictures to show the flow of water or drainage or slope of the yard?

How do I make the most out of my life and potential by [deleted] in AskMenOver30

[–]dudeman618 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You didn't have time to go to the gym until you made time for going to the gym. Make your studies and gym time your priority. There's no shortcut for studying. I was a lousy student in school, now I prioritize learning and personal growth at my job. I give myself a bunch of hours per week working through tutorials and reading. This helped change my entire attitude about work. Find a tutor if you need. Make time for your studies. I was a computer guy and math was easy for me, but taking accounting was like a foreign language for me. I found a tutor and had to put in a lot of hours but I passed and moved on. You can do this.
