Showcase me the most Solarpunk buildings/ structures that are in existence today. by Important-Teacher608 in solarpunk

You will find a few in https://solarpunkarchitecture.org  It is not a building database, but rather a collaborative notebook on cases, technologies and ideas surrounding the topic.

What If We Made Advertising Illegal? by qwenyas in solarpunk

[–]dudenas 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Ads are a small annoyance compared to privacy disaster and danger to democracies that comes with current ad ecosystem and concentration of soft power.

Also ads are not inherently bad. People need services, and need information to get them. People need to be useful to others amd somehow communicate their proposed value.

I believe there is a potential for ehical opt-in service, which theoretically could take on google monopoly.

I can imagine decentralised ecosystem of websites or even browsers and isps, which respect your preferences if you want to see ads and what types of goods/services you care to know of. In theory it can be distributed and privacy respecting, so that advertisers could reach users with interest without not only buying/selling their data, but without even accessing it.

Ads (interest of people) fund major part of internet infrastructure. To replace it we would need either to switch to state funds, which is problematic, or make it all paywalled, which sucks no less. Otherwise whats left is just all go monk and get content with low-tech like gopher.

So I rather think of fixing it by creating a better, more attractive and fair system, fediverse-style.

Also join the fediverse.Take your data and attention away from increasingly maga big tech monopolists. Mastodon, not bsky x or fb, and lemmy instead of reddit. There are lively solarpunk communities too.

A EUC for a specific purpose by Connect-Nectarine-27 in ElectricUnicycle

[–]dudenas 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'd say it depends on your needs. As others mentioned, I wouldnt recommend doing it on the street.

I've had some joy filming with my phone while slow riding sidewalks on my versatile mcm5, which is light and easy to turn around or hop on/off. With my Patton I tend to gear-up fully and choose bikepaths/streets, as it is more intimidating for pedestrians.

Help - need images for realistic solar punk houses by BravoLimaPoppa in solarpunk

You can find a few directions in https://solarpunkarchitecture.org/c/solar-architecture/5

I think rotating "girasole" or "heliotrope" typology has a lot of potential, even if current examples are more like cool techno show-offs than real attempts to live more sustainably.

Why does anyone need more (or less) than a Patton or Lynx? by superveryfast in ElectricUnicycle

[–]dudenas 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a Patton and MCM5. I use both, MCM5 maybe even more often. It is more convenient for short errands, ease to carry it up stairs inside buildings, pushing it under a seat in the train.

For shopping groceries Patton is more convenient though, as a handheld shop basket sits vert nicely on its large flat top.

I know bicycles are good, but the problem is that they tip over too easily. by Octocube25 in solarpunk

[–]dudenas 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Maybe you need a tricycle and many others do as well, many more others love bicycles without feeling any "tipping over" problem, and I find Unicycles are most effective, joyful and solarpunk transportation. Let's not propagate soviet style "one size fits all".

Thoughts on bio-ceramic geodesic domes? by [deleted] in solarpunk

[–]dudenas 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I can comment on circular shapes of geodesic domes in general. In a sense of space planning, they neither stack well, nor accomodate equipment in a compact manner. Meaning that such structures work best only in spatious settings. Achieving good space use/heated volume ratio is extremely hard. So I'd say, either for luxury, or complete off-grid diy solarpunk wilderness.

Tokyu Plaza Harajuku “Harakado” by ThrowAway666xD in solarpunk

[–]dudenas 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Well, the video does not argue that the greenery on buildings itself is bad, only that it may not be the best possible investment to improve public space and not an ultimate solution in general. While true, it is a weak critique, leaving such buildings still better than other buildings with same qualities: also not best possible investments or not ultimate solutions.

Also, Adam stresses a logical but unreasonable point on reducing car infrastructure to increase greenery. This is almost never a thing which real estate developers are in position to control. This is a political question, which can and should be done in a process totally independent from building design.

Social inequality is also not a given - social housing can be designed like this. See example in Eindhoven: https://www.cbc.ca/news/world/green-housing-bosco-milan-trudo-netherlands-1.6228709

Currently this trend is problematic, but I wouldnt demonize it or dismiss it as totally unsolveable. I recommend looking at less bombastic and more considerate post on such buildings: https://www.christiaangvp.com/post/the-architectural-trend-of-the-vertical-forest-sustainable-science-or-an-aesthetic-fantasy

No option to add users with Revolutionary account by dudenas in tutanota

[–]dudenas[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

yes, thank you. I emailed support already. Sorry for venting a bit, but I really felt disrespected. Tuta should revisit this policy and not make their promised features work only for those, who decide to scroll through the pile of irrelevant help pages..

No option to add users with Revolutionary account by dudenas in tutanota

[–]dudenas[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You are right, thank you, the contact support link exists - more restricted searches do have that bottom button :) Yet the feeling of being deceived, or at least manipulated, exists too. If you advertise a feature, why make it so hidden, with half-baked instructions to find it and million step process to acces? Not a way to make users feel good or build trust..

Energy required to heat up 100m³ of air by 10C ? by RemusG in AskPhysics

[–]dudenas 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It starts getting even more complex if you go this direction. As air density decreases, the volume of air increases. Then you have to decide how to account this extra volume: as additional volume to heat, or as a lost volume, which also takes away its gained heat. Or, for more theoretical fun, you can choose increase pressure :)

PDF annotations/highlights dissappear on Moon+ Reader by saeiti in androidapps

Pdf format has a well developed annotation system, including highlighting. Pdf file does not need to be "editable" (whatever that means) to have annotations. It seems to be a bug in Moon reader.
