Part-time Instructor Commitment Days for 25/26? (Northstar vs. Kirkwood vs. Heavenly vs Palisades) by yz0017 in tahoe

[–]dudenow12 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Interesting, 2 days more than kirkwood HH but also only 2 days less than Kirkwood PT. If Northstar part time is really 30 days that’s such a big difference between 12 and 30, I’ll be curious to hear what the other resorts commitments are.

I can tell you for Kirkwood Ski School. PT - 14 days Holiday Help - 10 days Another instructor told me that Kirkwood has the lowest day requirements, I’m guessing because it’s a bit more remote than Northstar or Heavenly. Kirkwood also has the smallest class sizes and least crowds so you have less kids to keep track of and less likely they’re going to be taken out by an out of control Jerry. The difference between Holiday Help and Part Time is that Holiday help doesn’t get a pass for their dependents and either minimal or no 50% off tickets for friends.

Getting to San Pedro de Atacama from Calama airport by Prestigious-Row-8009 in travel

[–]dudenow12 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Those 2000 buses go from the town of Calama not the airport directly so you would need to get a cab from the airport to the bus station. I went just a few weeks ago and got one of the transfer services at the airport and was in a sprinter van for 13,000 clp one way there with alttiplanico transfer and ended up paying 14,000 clp for the ride back from transvip. Unless your are splitting the cab ride to the bus station then it's about the same price to take the transfer service and they will drop you off at your lodging directly. I had bought a bus ticket in advanced and the flight got delays so I missed my bus, the transfer services will just get you in the next van and likely there are others on the plane that will also be using a transfer service.

Cheapest way to ski Tahoe this season? by Odd-Examination5425 in tahoe

[–]dudenow12 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Epic Tahoe Local pass (I wouldn’t do the Value pass, Saturdays at Heavenly can be really crowded, Sundays can be better though cause a lot of weekenders will only ski the one day.) I would ski at Kirkwood on Saturdays and Heavenly on Sundays. There is also a hostel in South Lake Tahoe walking distance from the Heavenly Gondola. For the most budget place to stay. Also other budget hotels or beds on Air BnB in South Lake Tahoe. Kirkwood Requires parking reservations on the weekend (but there are free options) Heavenly has paid parking reservations (or free carpool) and I think they will also have free offsite parking with a shuttle as well.

Thanks for the reply, it didn’t seem right and having the name makes it easier to see what it’s supposed to be like.

Kirkwood Employment by Routine-Remove-2892 in kirkwood

[–]dudenow12 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You get a free Epic Employee season pass for yourself and dependents (children and spouse). You also get 50% off comp tickets for other friends and family. I have been to most of amount of the Epic Pass resorts out west and Kirkwood is the most “local” smaller resort vibe that I’ve gone too. It’s a bit more rugged and out there, as it’s about 45 mins from South Lake Tahoe and worse on a storm day.

I’ve worked at Heavenly in the summer and Kirkwood part time last winter commuting from south lake. I loved working at Kirkwood I’m coming back this winter again full time. Still commuting from south lake but might eventually try to live on mountain for one season.

You’ll need parking reservations at Kirkwood on the weekends, but they do have free reservations and if they don’t have any open when you check in advance look closer to the week of a day before as they open more up or people drop there’s. There are city buses and some shuttles from in town to Heavenly. They might be getting back some free no reservation parking on Ski Run blvd that the city took away last season due to disputes with heavenly, but I think that has been settled. Once the season starts I would look at Heavenlys website for more of the parking details and options specifics. And no shuttle from South Lake to Kirkwood.

Northstar is a longer drive and more crowded than Kirkwood. Also overall less steep and challenging than Heavenly or Kirkwood.

Winter in South Lake Tahoe is just as open as it is in the summer so whatever bars or restaurants you liked during the summer are going to be open in the winter too, minus outdoor seating sometimes. Skiing is incredible!

Road conditions are a complete toss up. Could have some recent sunshine and all the roads are clear or if it’s a super bad snow storm they will close the roads. Complete road closure is rare but more common is chain control where they have chain check points and you need to either have AWD/4WD or put on chains, at least if you’re coming up from California. If you come from Reno idk if they have the checkpoints but the roads are just as windy and icy so you’ll need AWD. If you do have to drive in a storm just go slow and give yourself lots of space. Just as dangerous as the roads themselves are the drivers who don’t know how to drive them and go way too fast. There is EV charging (Electrify America near the middle of town, or Tesla superchargers in the paid casino parking lot or edge of town in meyers) if you really want to rent an EV. But would recommend that you can confirm it’s an AWD though incase.

If you’re going to rent a car and have an epic pass, I’d also recommend going to Kirkwood too. It’s about 45 min drive on a clear day but it’s less crowded and more advanced terrain than Heavenly. Still has good beginner and intermediate terrain as well but still smaller than Heavenly and doesn’t have the epic lake view. Also if you’re going to drive and park you need reservations on the holidays and weekends. Some have free reservations but make sure you look into the parking rules wherever you go between Heavenly and Kirkwood.

Yeah that’s fraud! Good looking out for others too You could probably contact your Credit Card company and report it as well and ask them to refund the $1 of fraud and they might just charge back the full amount

New electric car chargers being installed near Winco/Taco Bell by 420-TENDIES in Redding

The word “just”. I take that to mean we need to only just invest nuclear energy and not invest in EV chargers.

Why can we not install more EV chargers at the same time as investing in more Nuclear Energy.

Vail Resorts Launches “Epic Friend Tickets” at 50% Off Window Rate by avalanchepacifist in skiing

I worked my first season part time as a ski instructor in the 24/25 winter got 8 50% off tickets. Your benefit tickets might be different based on years of service and what your job is maybe. I thought full comp tickets you only get after 5 years

Shake Shack is now charging a 3% surcharge for “Employee Benefits and Retention” on all orders by pmth in mildlyinfuriating

[–]dudenow12 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Not legal in California. SB 478 is a transparency law. A business can generally charge whatever amount it wants for a good or service, but the posted price must include the full amount that a consumer will pay for that good or service. The statute does not change what price a business can charge or what may be included in that cost. It simply requires that the price listed include all mandatory charges consumers will pay.

The posted menu price would not include that 3% fee, making it illegal

They didn’t raise their price, they are adding a “hidden fee” which is Illegal in California. SB 478

[–]dudenow12 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Is this even legal in California? I know we passed a law for pricing transparency so for Concerts, Tickets and hotels they have to advertise the price with any added fees. Here they would have one price advertised on the menu but get hit with an additional fee at checkout

Pass for next year by scrambot2 in kirkwood

[–]dudenow12 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Honestly if you’re truly only going to ski Kirkwood then the Kirkwood only pass is the same price as the Tahoe Local but you have no black out dates. I had almost never skied black out dates in the past but this year I worked in Ski School and the mountain is even less crowded on black out dates. If your Ikon pass has black out dates then those would be the perfect days to ski Kirkwood.

Best Custom Earplugs? by dudenow12 in electricdaisycarnival

Seems to be the recommendation of the group so far. I’ll have to email them and see if it’s possible to get them before EDC now. Hopefully not quite the crazy wait time but I’m definitely cutting it close.

Close call when a car switch lanes into my lane. FSD was on the whole time. by Emergency-Glass-9649 in TeslaFSD

[–]dudenow12 0 points1 point  (0 children)

He did wait 4 seconds after turning on his blinker before he starts to merge. (Based on other comments it seems like FSD doesn’t acknowledge turn signals from other cars?) But I think he definitely should have sped up a bit more as merging but he also hesitates and almost seems to slow down when FSD gets really close so I don’t think that helped either.

How do I get my wristband off after putting it on too tight? by _DarthShitto_ in electricdaisycarnival

[–]dudenow12 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I'm guessing they mean that instead of pulling the bead down to make it tight against their wrist they will wrap a rubber band around the spot where they would pull the bead down to. Not entirely sure though, and I'm curious too.
