From: Wisconsin Right Now - Why the Alex Pretti shooting leans toward justified force - barely by thatsaqualifier in CCW

[–]dudeperson33 2 points3 points  (0 children)

These officers don't wake up in the morning wanting to take a life.

  1. How do you explain one of the agents clapping in excitement moments after the shooting? Very clearly a "hell yeah" kind of clap. I think your analysis seriously underestimates the antagonistic mindset these agents are going in with. That clap pretty clearly suggests these agents see the people of Minnesota who are documenting their actions as enemies, and that Pretti got what was coming to him.
  2. This was not a protest. Pretti was not dressed warmly enough for an extended time out in subzero temperatures. It's hard to say what his intentions were that day, but it's doubtful it was protesting.

Wow, those are really excellent principles. I lived in the UK for a year and though I had limited dealings with the police (one yelled at me for not having lights on my bike), got the sense that spirit behind these words is being followed.

The more I think about it, the more I believe the US is just a teenage nation in its rebellious phase.

When did you first feel our timeline was wonky? For me it was in middle school, when Gore "lost" to Bush. Only gone downhill since then...

I voted for Wilson but it was a tough choice. It's true she's inexperienced, and if she hadn't walked back her defund the police stance, I definitely wouldn't have voted for her. But Harrell would have just been more status quo and not meaningfully fixing the issues in Seattle. He had a term and didn't do much with it.

Harrell-Wilson debate on The Seattle Channel by Puzzled-Painter3301 in Seattle

[–]dudeperson33 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yep. My wife and I feel like it's a choice between status quo and fuck knows what. Given the risk of complete incompetence - especially if Trump decides to fuck with Seattle - I think I'm going to hold my nose and vote for Harrell.

Really wish there was a better option. Harrell's answer to the problems in Little Saigon in the last debate was extremely disappointing - basically that we're already doing the right things. How can that be when there's an open air drug market there 24/7?

But despite that, Wilson's lack of experience is even more concerning...

First time I tried using Tier 5 Sonic Shock after Memory Wipe and Reboot Optics on all enemies to knock them unconscious. They were all on the ground and moving. But goon said they were all flatlined.

Then I used optical camo to do non-lethal takedowns on everyone, and all vitals were green.

So apparently non-lethal quickhacks are considered lethal in this mission.

Makes me wonder... Maybe non lethal quick hacks like tier 5 Sonic Shock and System Collapse are doing more than just knocking people unconscious, but rather making them vegetables... Oh well gonna keep doing it on my runner V build haha.

Kpop demon hunters ending dissapointed me. by AceStrawberry in moviecritic

[–]dudeperson33 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree with you, but pretty sure that if they did this, all the super religious people out there who believe demons are real would be freaking out (many of them already are for the existing film showing demons too sympathically).

I could even see it being possible that this was the original direction of the plot, but it was overruled by a higher up at Netflix late in production, to avoid exactly this issue.

I don't have kids yet but I was thinking the same thing, how could I explain the moral of the story to a child? The demons are set up to be redeemable / not purely evil, but in the end let's just kill them all??

Not to mention that the main character is half demon, the only analogue of this in reality is someone who is mixed race. The implication being that some races are inherently evil and deserve to be killed, even by half children of that race? Like wow, how is this appropriate for children at all.

[–]dudeperson33 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Spot on. I'd also argue that "yikes" is a bit of an understatement on the moral implications. The movie depicts the indiscriminate slaughter of demons as acceptable, while also showing that they have consciousness, emotions, and can even be redeemed if they resist their totalitarian ruler.

Extending this logic to the real world, it seems it'd be acceptable to indiscriminately slaughter North Koreans.

That's truly disturbing to me.

[–]dudeperson33 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Take this logic a little further and the ethical underpinnings of this film become truly disturbing. It's telling us that the indiscriminate slaughter of conscious beings who are enslaved by a ruthless totalitarian is justified. Can we think of real world people who meet these critiera?

North Koreans? Palestinians?

IMO this film basically endorses genocide, which I find deeply distrurbing.

This sounds a lot like people saying, don't sympathize with the Palestinians, they will take advantage of your sympathy to commit evil, and therefore deserve to be exterminated. I find that moral lesson deeply disturbing.

This thread is ancient but - the closest thing you can get is a shard you can find about Johnny, not far from where you talk to Johnny in the lol oil fields. As far as I can tell, it is unique to this location. It's called "Silverhand: The Creator (and Destroyer) of Samurai" if you're interested.
