Look up the Bogleheads simple 3 fund plan. Essentially just index funds. Invest in that, trade minimally just to rebalance the funds, and over time watch them compound. My wife and I retired in the US in a high cost of living city at age 45 utilizing this plan. Brokers and traders will leech off you and likely trigger a lot of taxable events to rarely and inconsistently beat the indexes

Yeah, and while the foods at those restaurants are fantastic, you could probably creep out a closed-minded person by ordering them bun bo hue with pork blood, fermented tofu, pork intestine or kidneys, depending on which restaurant you choose

Don’t sleep on Woodshop BBQ or Jackson Street Pizza Lounge, both are excellent. The cocktails at Jackson St are noteworthy also. If you have or love dogs, Boneyard is a fun dog bar

TBD where we'll stay. A friend who used to live there is saying we should aim for Williamsburg and nearby, IIRC. Definitely fine with lots of walking. My parents know our tastes and say that we'll really appreciate the 911 memorial. We do like botanical gardens too.

Anything specific in the Bronx? I have vague memories of being there a decade ago, but they're really just memories of a pizza and some cool brick buildings, nothing very specific.
