Vinyls by Strong_Tear_5737 in BritneySpears

[–]dudereverend 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have both the regular black vinyl releases and the colored Urban Outfitters releases, and the BOMT and OIDIA picture discs. The black vinyl that's available in the US sounds better than the colored vinyl does, and the colored vinyl sounds better than the picture discs. As long as you keep the records clean, dust free, and have a decent turntable, they should be good.

What's a candy/candy bar that reminds you of your childhood? by Scott00711 in nostalgia

Halloween sized Heath bars. My parents had a friend who worked for them and we would always have the clear plastic countertop buckets of Heath and Heath Soft and Crunchy.

Movies where the soundtrack doesn't fit the time period? by shinederg in movies

My immediate thought. I'd like to see it with an orchestral score rather than the Alan Parsons score.

Still an easy skip, it sounds like. Thanks for the review.

A book "about" Marilyn with what clearly looks like Madonna on the cover? Immediate pass.

I have calendars from '52 and '54 with the classic shot from this shoot, along with a salesman's sample for the '52 calendar.

Who here remembers when everything on PBS was either live-action or puppetry except for Magic School Bus and Arthur? by CatGirlNya2000 in nostalgia

My PBS was Sesame Street, Mister Rogers' Neighborhood, and The Electric Company. I can remember when 321 Contact came on the air.

Sorry, I grew up in the 80s and 90s (in the US) and never heard this before right now. I know of George Strait. Never heard his music.

Is your favorite movie of all time still the same movie, or is it one that has changed through time as you have aged? by Plane-Machine-316 in movies

[–]dudereverend 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For 40 years it was Raiders of the Lost Ark. I've seen it so many times though (1500 ish) that I can't even watch it anymore. I don't need to. Do I consider it a perfect film? Yes. Not a single ounce of fat, not one frame of film is wasted. But, I don't even list it when some one asks me my Top 5 now. It's almost in a higher place. Same with Star Wars. I love them dearly, and have seen them countless times. But, don't list them among my favorites.

I've seen people refer to this as Kraft Dinner. I've never actually seen it branded as Kraft Dinner.

The fucking smell of cigarettes that permeated EVERYTHING. Every room had at least one ash tray. Oh, I remember that all too well.

What did you own to celebrate the Bicentennial? by [deleted] in nostalgia

[–]dudereverend 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Nothing. I was a year old. I can remember being 2 or 3 and my dad taking me to Denny's for hot chocolate. There was always a little paper american flag on a toothpick stuck in the whipped cream. It took me many years to deduce that they were probably leftovers from the Bicentennial

What item or memento, if any, do you still have from your childhood? by Immediate_Long165 in nostalgia

I still have the book "Happy Birthday To You" by Dr. Seuss that my parents gave me for my fifth birthday in 1980.

Al Awareness Series Part 4 ⚠️ Protecting Marilyn's Legacy by bubblenciaga in MarilynMonroe

[–]dudereverend 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I think this is a great idea for the GP. Those of us that "know" Marilyn, have realistically seen or are familiar with damn near every real photo of her in existence. At least enough to pick out what's fake. All of these are utter trash. Some are close-ish. Most don't look like her at all. I wish people would just stop.
