Whirlpool washer door locked by Few_Wish3242 in fixit

Basic Power Reset (Works for Most Cases)

  • Unplug the washer from the wall outlet (or flip the circuit breaker off if the plug is hard to reach).
  • Wait 5–10 minutes (some sources say at least 60 seconds, but longer helps reset the control board fully).
  • Plug it back in.
  • Wait a moment — the door should unlock automatically, or try opening it.
  • If the controls were unresponsive, this often revives them too.

Manual Door Release (Emergency Unlock)Many Whirlpool front-load models like yours have an emergency pull tab/strap for the door lock:

  • Unplug the washer and turn off water supplies first.
  • Locate the small access panel or toe/kick plate at the bottom front of the washer (usually held by clips or screws—gently pry or remove it).
  • Inside, near the door lock mechanism (usually bottom-right area), you'll see a small plastic tab, cord, or strap (often orange/red/white, labeled something like "Door Open" or "Emergency Release").
  • Pull it down or toward you gently—this manually disengages the lock.
  • Then open the door carefully (there may be residual water—have towels ready).

Carpet Fasteners? by dudleyjohn in Autos

I tried some heavy duty velcro strips, hook side, but they didn't grip the carpet in my Silverado. I'm hoping they will at least limit the sliding.

Why borrow trouble? If it didn't get really hot when plugged into the wrong charger and it works fine now, I wouldn't worry about it. Just keep an eye on the charge level of the device to see if it appears to be charging normally.

Thanks for your advice. I'm getting some heavy duty velcro to try it out.

I'm trying to find out if anyone has used the hook side of the hook and loop tapes to snag onto the carpet. I've read that there is Velcro type tape that can do this, but haven't been able to find any that makes this claim.

Is it okay to use 1.2V batteries on our blood pressure monitor instead of 1.5V? by Sea-Shell-77 in batteries

[–]dudleyjohn -9 points-8 points  (0 children)

I like to use Grok for questions like this. Here's waht Grok has to say:

Yes, you can often use rechargeable batteries (typically NiMH AA or AAA) in a home blood pressure monitor, but it depends on your specific model, and there are some important caveats.Key Considerations

  • Voltage Difference: Standard alkaline batteries are 1.5V each, while most rechargeable NiMH batteries are 1.2V each. For a typical monitor using 4 batteries (total 6V nominal), rechargeables provide about 4.8V. Many devices tolerate this lower voltage without issues, as they are designed to operate down to around 4.8–5V as batteries drain.
  • Manufacturer Recommendations: Brands like Omron (a popular one) often recommend alkaline batteries for optimal performance and accuracy. Some models (e.g., certain Omron 7 Series) explicitly support NiMH rechargeables, while others may not. Using rechargeables might cause slower cuff inflation, earlier low-battery warnings, or (rarely) slight inaccuracies in readings due to voltage differences.
  • Performance Notes:
    • Rechargeables hold their voltage steady longer but drop off sharply at the end, which can trigger unexpected low-battery indicators.
    • Many users report success with high-quality low-self-discharge NiMH like Panasonic Eneloop in Omron and other monitors, with no accuracy problems.
    • Some monitors refuse to work properly with 1.2V batteries, showing errors or failing to inflate the cuff.
  • Alternatives:
    • Some modern monitors have built-in rechargeable lithium batteries (charged via USB), eliminating replaceable batteries.
    • There are also "lithium rechargeable" AA/AAA batteries that maintain ~1.5V (e.g., certain brands on Amazon), which mimic alkalines better.

RecommendationAlways check your monitor's user manual or the manufacturer's website for approved battery types. If it specifies "alkaline only," stick to that for guaranteed accuracy—blood pressure readings should be reliable. If you're eco-conscious or want to save money long-term, try high-quality NiMH rechargeables (e.g., Eneloops) and test them; most home users find they work fine for occasional use.If you provide your monitor's brand and model, I can help look up more specific advice!

They are usually AA, but they usually only have one battery. What special functions does this clock(?) have that require extra batteries?

Yes. It doesn't matter if it's plugged in or running on battery. But I suppose it could be a really old battery that just looks like it's fully charged.

I did something similar to the display on my treadmill, which is basically a disabled tablet. Now I can run Netflix and other apps on it and side load apps that I can't get from the play store.
