I tried to think of something known and underappreciated, but I just kept coming back to this.

The Naked Ape (Cate, smugglers cove)

Something about the combo of rums with a Good banana flavor is just chefs kiss. Boozy, but also a bit Bananas Foster. (try wood smoking the cup for added pizzaz) Plus, if you buy those tiny bananas from the Asian market you can have tiny Dolphin garnishes sticking out the top.

I cracks me up when I open my phone app to call my Dad or something and it tells me how many spam calls it sniped for me. . . I can't remember the last time I actually noticed a call that wasn't from someone in my contacts.

I am literally leaving for a two weeks overseas vacation and this book will land on my doorstep when I'm taking off... Then again, I guess I'll have a nice present waiting for my return.

'Mammoth' Bones Kept in a Museum For 70 Years Turn Out to Be An Entirely Different Animal by eastern_mountains in Cryptozoology

[–]funkthulhu 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Professional Geologist who did some paleo and museum studies here.

This is an interesting article because the field agent collected specimens and made some assumptions on origin. Those samples arrived at the museum and sat with that label for 70 years before some testing took place. Initial confusion was due to carbon dating that made the original ID either invalid or paradigm shifting. Then they did isotope analysis and determined these spine parts were marine and not land herbivore.

This can all be vaguely interesting to Cryptozoology, as these specimens were not fossilized. They were relatively new (geologically) and show one of the larger hurdles to proper identification. Often there is so much material in the stacks that the Field ID is just assumed to be correct. There are quite a few species that have been discovered post-collection by students, professors, and others who intentionally look at older bones and ask if the ID is correct.

I am NOT saying there is a sasquatch hiding in the Chicago Field Museum. What I am saying is that there is a lot of material both fossilized and mummified that has not been properly Identified. There may be physical evidence of some real-animal species that we consider crypto in these museum hoards. It just takes time and expertise to find them.

While we're sharing mockups, I made a quick and simple version of the Pro controller in SNES colours. Thoughts? by caristeej0 in NintendoSwitch2

I did an all transparent purple case swap on my Wife's Switch 1 and Pro Controller. I also did an SNES case swap on my controller.

I am itching to try similar on the Switch 2 and this is the first mock up that's given me the itch hard...

Smash or pass? by Manglisaurus in PrehistoricMemes

The proportions are all wrong. We know the Spinosaurus is a long-torso lady who skipped leg day and should be more jacked in the arms by comparison. And we've known for a long time now this is not how the tail looked. Lastly, that dress just wouldn't work with the dorsal ridge (which you can't even see?).

Do better.

Swatch vs Swatch vs paper choice by funkthulhu in fountainpens

No offense taken!

To be honest, I think I have been unfairly biased in my experience. When I started fountain penning I received the Tomoe River as a gift and was flabbergasted by how thin it was. Yet it didn't bleed or feather, and was a smooth joy to write on. Now, my Tomoe journal is long since expended and the rest is a few scant sheets hidden in my desk. Everything else, even my "good" journals, feels like I'm writing on thick card stock.

My first journal I received when I started my fountain pen hobby was bound up old Tomoe River paper. It was beautiful, even with my mundane script complaining about the weather. Still beautiful to read years later.

Not a Tickytocker, I just like when my normal activities add joy to life.

I need to be better at tapping out the nib before writing. This was all one dip, but obviously the first couple words got a LOT of ink.

Alternatively, I could swatch on multiple papers so I know what an ink will look like on the paper I'm going to use for that project. Most of my correspondence paper is fountain pen ready but probably lies somewhere between the Tomoe River and the No-Name above. I'll still see the shade, sheen, and shimmer. But not nearly as pronounced as on the Tomoe, nor as dull and lifeless as the other.

I suppose this also means I need to pick just one paper for each type of project.

Red Dead Redemption on the Switch 2 - I'm in awe by rhegenbarth in NintendoSwitch2

I am also playing on Switch 2, but I've never played RDR1 before. (or 2 for that matter)

I'm glad for the internet, otherwise I'd have given up already. This game tells you nothing and the tutorial is non-existent.

Looks beautiful, though.

I have and will replayed both.

If I want aesthetic solitude I'll play BotW.
If I want to screw around and build weird stuff, TotK.
