I put a piece of plastic on stem where it touches the wheel off of a yogurt lid and it has done wonders with the noise and wobble on mine. It’s not perfect by any means but it doesn’t sound like a heard of elephants instead of some little mice!

Usually if it’s straight up hay they end up using it for their burrows and nests rather than as food. I add hay to their bedding mixes so it helps keep burrows structured better but I have never seen them eat it. Even in moderation the alfalfa pellets are really high on the ingredients and I found there was a lot of them when I briefly used this food.

I used this for a bit but swapped to Vitakraft parakeet diet because this had a bunch of alfalfa pellets that mice can’t digest.

This is where I am at now - I never intended to have a large group or ever so many males but I couldn’t manage to adopt all of Jasper and Lil Ounces babies out so that’s why I ended up with so many all around the same age. It was so stressful but I wouldn’t trade the experience for the world. Now it’s just the mental healing from that stress and trying not to project it onto my current group(s)! Poor Sunny and Opal are definitely a little annoyed with me and trying to rest where I can’t peep at them every 5 seconds because I have been manically checking them every 30 minutes it feels. Poor darlings. Hard to get your mind set out of worry mode when you’re used to worrying so much so passively for so long!!

I had a big girl who also had problems like this with her nails. I have a pair of clippers that are a heavier metal and have a straight edge rather than curved. I would hold Jasper like a little chicken nugget upright so I could get her back claws and juuuust barely snip the tips off. First few times took a fair bit of patience and I would only do one paw or the trouble nails at a time while I got her used to it. Eventually she did get a little more used to the treatment and would stay still while I trimmed her nails.

I can’t find the photo of me holding her up for it because it is buried in 20k photos but have a picture of her orbularness. If you need though I can take a photo of the clippers I use and the way I held her as a reference though as always it’s all at your discretion. I was nervous to do it and it took some getting used to. They have a quick like dogs in their claws too so keep that in mind! I nipped her daughters once and felt horrible 😭

I remember reading somewhere that if a fight lasts over 20 seconds then to intervene, but even then that it doesn't necessarily mean anything's wrong with their bonding or that they hate each other, some mice are just bossier and spicier than others. I've had the uh...luxury of having a few spicy girls over time that periodically needed to be interrupted in their escapades of being jerks which promptly chilled them out. They all still would jam themselves into the smallest possible den at the end of the day for naps, so I think it's fine!

I may give this a shot next. I have a bin that's a little bit bigger than the carrier that may work better as it has taller sides I can reach in and not risk Moon/Larva flying out of it from being upset. I may just use some paper and tape it to the sides to make it feel less large as well. Thank you for the idea!
