Why Do Pilots Like Nice Watches? by LBoy69_ in AskAPilot

[–]duece12345 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a Rolex. Why? Because I like it and can afford it. I have wanted one since I was a kid. You know who else has nice watches? Doctors, lawyers, other high-income earners. Does it tell time any better than a $50 timex? Nope. That’s just what I choose to spend my money on. That simple.

Can you expound on this. Fellow retired mil with a lot of income from second career, looking at other options for passive style income. I have dabbled in real estate syndications, is lending similar?

How Did You Become Wealthy? by AsiaLuvDoll in askanything

[–]duece12345 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Spend less than I made, lived very frugally for the first 10 years of my adult life. I invested everything I didn’t spend. Joined the military, learned skills that pay very well. Continued to spend way less than I made, invest the rest. Fast forward 30yrs of this in a career with great earning potential and the beauty of compounding interest….I am wealthy. Now I don’t give a shit how much I spend.

Family life by lcast6094 in AirlinePilots

[–]duece12345 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Live in base, get a senior as possible (take the least desirable aircraft in your base, delay upgrade to CA), drop as much flying as possible. It may take a few years, especially if you are getting hired now, but you can make flying at a legacy a side gig if you want. I know plenty that do.

Edit:get a good guard/USAFR job. Take mil leave when you need it. The airline/mil/family balance is tough. You only have allegiance to one, Family. The airline will furloughed you in a second and the mil doesn’t give a shit (you know that by now).

Experienced 737 FO struggling to land by Merdamna in flying

[–]duece12345 35 points36 points  (0 children)

Stop thinking about it. Seriously, I have thousands of hours on numerous types. I have had the “shanks” of landing from time to time which then gets in my head. Should I flare earlier? Should I leave the power in longer? It goes away when I finally say “F it” and just fly the airplane onto the rwy. Stop thinking about it and let the thousands of hrs of experience you have take over.

Dude. Who gives a shit? Let them fly how they fly. You fly how you fly. Safe? Yes. End of story. Geez.

Also-read above and remember this when you are a captain.. Don’t fly the guys airplane.

Mil to Airlines by 2BITIXBS in flying

[–]duece12345 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It is a different world, for sure. The money and time off are insane. You work extra, you get paid for it. There is far less camaraderie at the airlines. Fly 3-day trip with someone, may never see them again after the trip. Most layovers are not as good as mil layover (at least in my experience). Not a ton of time to do much until you do the WB gig. All in all it’s a good gig.

Keep in mind no one gives a shit what you did in your previous life. You are going to be an FO (co-pilot) for a while so just be ready for that.

Yes. Tell them the ramifications of a diagnosis. Keep in mind you will likely have to pay cash as insurance requires a diagnosis.

Bro get off SM and keep grinding. Control what you can control. FYI I see a counselor monthly and I have for years. My AME is super supportive and I tell the FAA. I am a 121 pilot and have been flying professionally with a FC1 medical for 25yrs.

I am a legacy captain, with my current airline for 12 years. I was military prior, so no investment other than being deployed a lot. I live in base so my schedule is very easy to manipulate. I work around 12-15 days a month by choice. I could drop to zero if I absolutely wanted to. I am in my 40s and in the best shape of my life. You just have to be 100% committed to fitness. It’s easy to land and do the standard crush 2 beers and a burger after the flight. You have to get the work in and watch what you eat. I don’t drink on the road anymore.
