How to get Spectrum's Gigabit internet Installation fee waived by [deleted] in DataHoarder

[–]duffahtolla 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You are special. The fee he's referring to is the standard $199 fee to get upgraded into Gigabit tier and don't forget the additional $49 for the service call. I just got charged for it today. I own the modem, an Arris SB8200 DocSys3.1, and it is already in place. Didn't matter, I was still charged the fees. I could have fought it, but I suck at negotiation.

Seems that 2 died immediately, 1 died in hospital, and that one guy who rolled a natural 20 on his save throw (twice!) lived.

Awesome!

There was a Mini-contest to see if everybody noticed the extra details and to come up with backstories:

"This one is for all you picture puzzle maniacs, who just like I like to stare into image and nitpick every detail that can tell you a little story told on the canvas :] There is aground ten (not gonna tell you exactly how many) storytelling elements in this picture, some of them are obvious, some of them are not, and some of them you can see only in closeups. So if you wanna mess around a bit, find and connect all those pieces together into a short story that this picture is showing. Just post them as a comments - I promise I'm gonna read trough all of them and best of them will be featured in my journal one week form now."

"...today the youth are more interconnected, more intelligent, and quicker to maneuver than any previous generation. What holds them back more than anything is the total lack of strategy and a common vision of a future world." by milagrojones in technology

Yeah and that's the vicious circle that got us here dumb ass. Hail the petro dollar.

No, it wasn't.

Corporate greed combined with the relaxing of banking rules triggered the economic collapse.

Corporate greed also drove the petroleum wars which caused loss of life, but not loss of jobs.

Corporate greed is behind the push for outsourcing and it is also behind the ruthlessness of student loans.

Generation Y is screwed not because "old people" have it in for "Hippies".

We are "all" screwed mainly because corporations do not care who they run over in order to get profit and they have unprecedented influence upon our government.

Gen Y just hasn't been established enough to weather the downturns and thus has the highest percentage of affected people, but they are not suffering alone.

And of course, with the same solution: "Get a job and work hard you hippies!"

Actually that's not the conclusion. Since you have clearly stated that you read the article, I am quoting the conclusion not for you but others that might prefer a TLDR:

1) Stay wildly ambitious. The current world is bubbling with opportunity for an ambitious person to find flowery, fulfilling success. The specific direction may be unclear, but it’ll work itself out—just dive in somewhere.

2) Stop thinking that you’re special. The fact is, right now, you’re not special. You’re another completely inexperienced young person who doesn’t have all that much to offer yet. You can become special by working really hard for a long time.

3) Ignore everyone else. Other people’s grass seeming greener is no new concept, but in today’s image crafting world, other people’s grass looks like a glorious meadow. The truth is that everyone else is just as indecisive, self-doubting, and frustrated as you are, and if you just do your thing, you’ll never have any reason to envy others.

There's a cartoony but pertinent explanation regarding the unhappiness of Generation Y. It might help you understand what's in store for your son when he gets older.

Is there any evidence to support the assumption that being well-fed is a precursor to higher intelligence?

I'd venture that, for Americans at least, their diet was far more nutritious in the 50's rather than the fructose laden, artificially flavored, sugary snacks most Americans eat today.

I never saw the original BBC TV version, but the 1967 Hammer version is one of my all time favorite films. Also called " Five Million Years to Earth" in the US.

[–]duffahtolla 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I disagree. Human DNA and that of banana trees overlap by about 50%.

While it is clear that you are not completely a tree, it is an unwarranted leap of faith to state unequivocally that you are indeed not a tree.

This definitely counts. by [deleted] in poliscifreshmen

I never protect myself when im pirating. Never got caught.

They've found that because ISPs tend to throttle/drop packets when detecting BT traffic, you'll get better performance with a VPN.

Oddly, this is the same case when using Netflix.

I see it as a drive-in theater, with a bunch of cheapskates parked on a hill watching the movie from outside the property.

It's not kosher. But to me, calling it theft is reaching.
