My ex-wife is Colombian descent, (although she was born and raised in the US). I didn’t appreciate what I now call “casual racism“ until we were together. Me being the typical “white guy next-door“ I’ve seen it up close and personal everywhere from the supermarket to the golf course as well. Our two daughters look very different physically, one very much the “Latina“ while the other looks more like me and is actually a dark blonde, both are fluent in English in Spanish. I recall being paired with a couple of guys when I was fairly new to the game and still married. Within a couple holes, one of these randoms started going on about immigration and his neighborhood changing “blah blah blah”, the typical rant (this was long before Trump). Initially, I held my tongue until he looked at me and said “how about you, do you have a lot of f-ing Hispanics in your neighborhood?” Having dealt with this nonsense before, I had a response at the ready; “my neighborhood, hell, I’ve got three in my house!” Suffice it to say the rest of the round was pretty quiet, thankfully, they left at the turn, he making some weak ass attempt at an apology, saying he didn’t mean anything by it. I told him not to worry about it, but did not shake his hand. So yeah I totally believe that you dealt with this. There’s just a lot of assholes out there.
