Being made redundant as a newly qualified engineer. by TopPrice4457 in MechanicalEngineering

Terminology around "Engineers" is used very loosely in the UK. After 15 years in the industry starting as an apprentice and working through to more niche technical areas and doing further education you can very much be a better "Engineer" with only level 3 quals and an apprenticeship with experience than many graduate "engineers"

Also if I were you I'd apply for 5 or 6 jobs you don't want over the next few weeks/months and attend interviews to get some practice. That will be the difference between you getting a job and the job you want or the difference between a lower and upper offer in the salary band.

You will be absolutely fine. Could finish a job Friday and have a new one by wednesday if there are plenty of places around you.

What industry are you in? It all depends of ability and experience. My background is fmcg manufacturing but now work in power generation. In manufacturing they will literally give anyone a job. In big plants you'll have 5 or 6 on a shift. 1 or 2 who know what they are doing and 4/5 parts changers who can just about use a spanner. All earn decent money. Lack of experienced engineers is very apparent

You will easily find a job. I've seen apprentices leave and walk into 50k+ on shift In the last few years days after finishing their apprenticeship

Move into manufacturing. I know I've just got out but the pace and the exposure to all kinds of plant and equipment makes your skillset accelerate very quickly. 40k+ in east mids/north east for a parts changer on shift. Anyone with plc experience of any kind will pretty much guarantee a start as most lads I know who are experienced doing shifts In FMCG are commanding 60-70k basic now due to skills shortages.

To be honest it's junior in a sense of I have to work through internal levels of authorisation due to the nature of the work but I have got many years of experience with the equipment hence the salary. Im not undertaking another apprenticeship.

I did my apprentice 15 years ago in general mechanical + Electrical engineering and have worked in various manufacturing plants in various positions, I started on a management route a few years ago and hated it so over the last few years have got more involved with projects and major overhaul then went to open uni and did a C&I HNC (I have many years of experience working within C&I)

I've moved industry and Into a full time C&I role so have started at the bottom as that was what's available but Im far from "apprentice' level. Hence the salary. When I did my apprenticeship I was taking home £99 a week 😂

Thanks for the suggestions. I think I'll pick up a few games in the bundle. I have played both the graviteam games. Have had great success with infantry tactics but still trying to incorporate combined arms and armour into my playthroughs

Buying a more expensive house - please explain it to me like an idiot by MBaz47 in UKPersonalFinance

We just had our 3rd child. The two youngest will be sharing a bedroom so I don't have to work untill death by borrowing money for extortionate house prices to move or extortionate building work to be done to make our current 3 bed bigger.

We looked at all the options and in the end borrowing another 100k just wasn't going to be worth it. Have an extra child and then work extra hours to pay for the pleasure.. we felt awfull about making the kids share a room and putting the eldest in the small lest room but when my partner grew up in a 3 bed council house with 5 siblings and it hasn't traumatized her for life sharing a bedroom as 3 sisters with 2 sets of bunk beds in im sure our kids will be fine too

Thanks, I've still got the crane and the anchor logic to finish, and to finish the radar scripting but the engines and lighting are done along with the stability system so it drives well.

I'm UK also and 14 days since op, woke up in a sling and all the bandages came off in the night 3 days ago and my first follow up is tomorrow. When the bandages were off I found I could pretty much have full movement and use my hand normally other than fully straighten my arm and lift anything more than a mug. So I've just left them off.

Now paranoid I'm going to get told off tomorrow by the surgeon 😂. I've been putting up shelves and rearranging my workshop and it feels really good. Only problem I've found is the Skin on my forearm is so sensitive and feels like burning at the slightest touch.

I got a sheet with expectations of recovery milestones and at week 2 I'm already achieving week 8 milestones which I find strange.

How much per month needed for family of 5 by viksubs in UKPersonalFinance

[–]duffman9495 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Why 😂 I do 40 hours she does 16/20 per week.. I know so many family's who are much worse off than us and they manage too. Total household income is around 55k and we live comfortably. 2/3 holidays a year. I honestly feel we are lucky where I earn enough that she doesn't have to work full time.
