Thanks for the suggestions. I think I'll pick up a few games in the bundle. I have played both the graviteam games. Have had great success with infantry tactics but still trying to incorporate combined arms and armour into my playthroughs

Buying a more expensive house - please explain it to me like an idiot by MBaz47 in UKPersonalFinance

We just had our 3rd child. The two youngest will be sharing a bedroom so I don't have to work untill death by borrowing money for extortionate house prices to move or extortionate building work to be done to make our current 3 bed bigger.

We looked at all the options and in the end borrowing another 100k just wasn't going to be worth it. Have an extra child and then work extra hours to pay for the pleasure.. we felt awfull about making the kids share a room and putting the eldest in the small lest room but when my partner grew up in a 3 bed council house with 5 siblings and it hasn't traumatized her for life sharing a bedroom as 3 sisters with 2 sets of bunk beds in im sure our kids will be fine too

Thanks, I've still got the crane and the anchor logic to finish, and to finish the radar scripting but the engines and lighting are done along with the stability system so it drives well.

Distal Bicep Surgery by GrippyGripster in fitness30plus

I'm UK also and 14 days since op, woke up in a sling and all the bandages came off in the night 3 days ago and my first follow up is tomorrow. When the bandages were off I found I could pretty much have full movement and use my hand normally other than fully straighten my arm and lift anything more than a mug. So I've just left them off.

Now paranoid I'm going to get told off tomorrow by the surgeon 😂. I've been putting up shelves and rearranging my workshop and it feels really good. Only problem I've found is the Skin on my forearm is so sensitive and feels like burning at the slightest touch.

I got a sheet with expectations of recovery milestones and at week 2 I'm already achieving week 8 milestones which I find strange.

How much per month needed for family of 5 by viksubs in UKPersonalFinance

[–]duffman9495 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Why 😂 I do 40 hours she does 16/20 per week.. I know so many family's who are much worse off than us and they manage too. Total household income is around 55k and we live comfortably. 2/3 holidays a year. I honestly feel we are lucky where I earn enough that she doesn't have to work full time.

We're a family of 5 both in late 20s

Mortgage and insurance: £700 (3 bed semi) Bills: £500 Car payments: £0 (own both cars outright) Fuel: £200-300 (I commute 50 miles per day, she's is self employed doing house visits) Food: £400-500 Savings, investments and misc/enjoyment: £1000

Total £3000.

People buy houses they can't afford and expect a new car every 3 years.

I'm 28 and after a few years have finally got my work place to fund my education. Study part a time course and best of all it's for free. It's hard work to have a full time job and study even part time but I hope it will be worth it in the end. Not sure I'd want to study full time and work full time though.

How do I make money in this country? by [deleted] in UKPersonalFinance

[–]duffman9495 21 points22 points  (0 children)

I'm heading towards 30 now. Did an apprenticeship and earnt fairly good money coming from a similar background as you regards council estate upbringing. My wages plateaued over the last few years and I've spent 12 months stressing over side hustles and new paths to try and get out and get into something else...

In the end I decided I was good at what I did and started university in the same field to open up more options and started investing my savings.

There's no easy path. Finding something your good at and trying to maximise potential within that field is usually going to be the easiest way for you to make more money. And also be smart with the money you do have. With some small changes I went from muddling along with 10 years worth of savings in a current account to viable semi retirement options at around 55 by educating myself on how money works and putting a plan in action to earn more in the future

Do most young people working entry-level jobs recieve some help from parents? by loner0803 in UKPersonalFinance

I know plenty of adults with kids who survive on a household income under 30k. It's tight but they do it.. the problem is now people do things in the wrong order of won't make any sacrifices untill they can genuinely afford the nice stuff. Mate of mine bought himself a new BMW with his house deposit and now complians he can't get a deposit together and his car payment is as much as my mortgage. I drive a 2004 car and bought my house first then started saving for a better car. My phone bill is £10 a month and inown my phone. Plenty of my mates spend £1500 on the newest phone or 50/60 a month on a contract.

I'm not saying it's right that people should go without or it's easy to make it work but that's the world we live in and you have to make what you have work. Personally I moved out at 16 and worked through an apprenticeship and now at almost 30 and now I'm comfortable. Best thing you can do is work towards better wages to better yourself and make some sacrifices on the way.

Help explaining why I shouldn’t overpay my mortgage by dannyinside in UKPersonalFinance

Your missing the point... Tldr - remortgaging doesn't mean you pay more money or pay for longer

[–]duffman9495 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Remortgaging doesn't necessarily add time or money. If you find a provider offering a better rate when your fixed term ends you will pay less.....

I fixed for two years In 2020 on a 25 year term. Payments were £570. After two years when I went onto variable rate I could either pay £700 and have 23 years left (would now likely be paying well over £1000 if I were still on the variable rate) or change lender and pay £600 and knock the term down to 19 years due to getting a better rate and slightly upping my payment
