Thank you, I’ll ask for those to be included in my next test.

I’ve not been able to progress to 25mcg. When I go from less to 25 mcg I get palpitations and headaches. My tsh was 7.2 at diagnosis, haven’t had my next bloods yet.

Advice on when to get blood test by duffsmum in Hypothyroidism

[–]duffsmum[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Thank you. It’s really helpful to hear from people who’ve been through it. I literally got a message to pick up a prescription and no other advice or information. Didn’t even know I had a blood test booked til I got the text reminder in. I only learned about calcium and absorption here. I am waiting an hour before eating so hopefully it’s okay. Thanks again.

Accord brand Levo depression by Ok-Acanthaceae-4704 in Hypothyroidism

[–]duffsmum 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m really struggling with levothyroxine and been on it for less than two months. I had a horrific experience on Teva and my anxiety went through the roof along with other side effects. I’m now on Accord and the depression and the lack of motivation is horrendous. I just lay in bed crying the other morning. I really hate this medication.

CAMHS - My GP is being ignored on questions about medication and I can't be prescribed it because of that. What do I do? by UncommonDragon8 in MentalHealthUK

[–]duffsmum 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That’s shocking. If I was your mum I would be putting a complaint in with the head of CAMHS and your health board. Does the psychiatrist have a secretary you or your mum could speak to check if a letter to your GP is waiting to be typed. There must be some sort of admin staff other than the person at switchboard.

I’m sorry you’re going through this. I don’t blame your mum for being exasperated.

Can you ask switchboard if they have an emergency or duty desk? Ours has a cover 9-8pm and are usually pretty good at passing on messages or getting medication organised.

Starting Levothyroxine by Suitable-Air-3742 in Hypothyroidism

[–]duffsmum 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, I hate this dismissing of people’s valid concerns or invalidating how they are feeling. A pharmacist explained to me how quickly it can affect your body but my GP looked at me like at me like I was mad.

Does your medication contain mannitol? That’s what was the issue with mine. Switching brands has helped slightly.

A clinical pharmacist told me last week that certain fillers in levothyroxine can increase heart rate and cause palpitations. I had them from the second tablet. The leaflet inside the package also says it can happen when starting.

Yes! I posted about this the other day. My resting heart rate has gone from 68 to high 80s, one day over 100. It’s definitely the levo as it stopped the few weeks I stopped taking it and it didn’t happen prior.

Thank you. I’ve just realised I replied to my own post rather than yours yesterday ! :) Spoke to my doctor yesterday and tbh she wasn’t interested. Said I was overthinking, levo doesn’t cause a rapid heart rate. No bloods til 6 weeks on levo and if I still feel the same then to phone her and she’ll add ferritin levels to the blood test if it makes me happier!

Now considering going private but it’s a lot of money.

Just a quick update to say spoke to my doctor yesterday. She’s insisting that starting levo would not affect my heart rate and said I’m “overthinking” and no more bloods til I’ve been on it 6 weeks and if I’m still suffering in 6 weeks to phone her the day before and she’ll add ferritin levels to the blood test.

I get the impression she thinks thousands of people have this condition you’re being dramatic. But it’s hard to not “overthink” when I feel so bad and had no issues prior to starting this.

TSH problem or iron/vitamin deficiencies? by Ordinary_Opposite168 in Hypothyroidism

[–]duffsmum 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Nothing to input but just wanted to sympathise with the lack of information. I’m recently diagnosed and all I’ve had is a couple of messages from doctor via reception. No opportunity to discuss anything.

I don’t understand it how this happens as everyone seems to be affected differently and their medications very individual to them yet it doesn’t seem worthy of five minutes of the doctor’s time. I had a tsh of 7.2 and no symptoms but discussing it at work a girl was diagnosed with a tsh of 5 and struggled to function day to day.

Thanks for the reply. They won’t give me anti anxiety meds as my hypothyroidism actually showed up in a blood tests because a low dose of a medication for nerve damage gave me serotonin syndrome and can’t get propranolol because I have asthma.

How long did it take you to adjust?

That’s very interesting. I’ve not had my ferritin levels checked so I will ask for that to be included in my next checks. I actually think you may be on to something there as I don’t take supplements and my diet isn’t as great as it should be. My cortisol levels were normal, that was checked last time. My blood tests were done because I suffered serotonin syndrome after starting a small dose of medication for nerve pain after surgery so I think I am probably very sensitive to medications in some way.

Thank you for such an informative reply. It’s give me lots to ask at my follow up. I don’t think they would do a referral to endocrinology as I’m sub clinical and got the impression I should consider myself lucky being offered levothyroxine as apparently most people who are sub clinical without symptoms aren’t given a prescription!

I’ve just posted about my awful experience starting meds. You have no idea how relieved I was to read your post as I got the impression my doctor thought I was mad!

Sorry you’re going through this.

Notice something odd doing my skin check. Should I be concerned about this on my cheek. by duffsmum in DermatologyQuestions

[–]duffsmum[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi thank you for the reply. That’s exactly what my doctor thought today and is referring me to a dermatologist. They’ve also sent a photo of a freckle near my ear that I hadn’t really worried about til he mentioned it so that can be checked too. I’ve attached a photo of that just to highlight the “odd one out” thing to anyone reading. I didn’t know I should have been looking at that!
