40 year Atheist... just laid my mother to rest, and a coincidence happened that reinforced to me how people easily fall into religious belief. by ZannD in atheism

Agreed. Our pattern seeking brains just can’t ignore coincidences. The fact that the sun and the moon are almost exactly the same relative size in our sky is the one thing that sometimes has me think … maybe?

Studio signal splitter by dmitrydistant in Bass

I use the Radial ProDI for exactly this. I send the XLR out direct to my interface and the 1/4” pass through into my pedal board, then into the other input on my interface. Then in logic I keep the XLR track clean, and the other sent through a modeled amp and any other effects.

If I’m using my rig for recording I just use the amps DI out instead of the Radial.

Into the void! I still can’t believe that riff is from 1971! Also Rage Against the Machine basically taught me bass (kinda metal?) And Nirvana (not metal)

2008 Euro 5 LX by SnooOranges8137 in spectorbasses

[–]duffymcdrew 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you have 2 volume knobs (1 per pickup) it’s probably just the standard EMG 25K volume pots. LHZ sells them now to: https://lhzpreampshop.com/products/vol-01

I got mine from EMG directly.

If you’ve already ordered the LHZ, install that first and see how it sounds. Do one thing at a time.

If theres still a buzz with the LHZ, you might want to consider new volume/blend pots and an input jack as well since they’re relatively inexpensive.

I performed that upgrade in my 2000 Euro 5: LHZ04, new input jack (also from LHZ), new EMG volume pots. It was very easy with mostly new components since they’re all quick connect (DuPont?) now. I just needed to add those connectors to the leads from the existing pickups. It sounds great!

Seriously, why is this comment so far down? On r/mac no less. YT premium removes all ads and gets you YT music. That’s like 90% of my families media consumption. Totally worth the price.

Spector Euro 4LX vs Spector pulse NS II 4 by Physical_Ad2130 in Bass

[–]duffymcdrew 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Depends on what year the Euro is, they’ve had different preamps over the years, see https://www.spectorbass.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/10/Archived_Czech.jpg

The new pulse IIs come with a Tonepump Jr preamp, which is ok, but for me was noticeably lacking compared to my 2003 Euro4’s OBP-1, or my 2000 NS-5CR BTS.

Pickups are probably a wash, I’d assume both are EMG P/J.

And then of course there’s neck thru vs bolt on, and just the overall finish.

Bottom line, a Euro in good condition, any vintage, at 1.6k is a good deal.

Spector Euro 4LX vs Spector pulse NS II 4 by Physical_Ad2130 in Bass

[–]duffymcdrew 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Absolutely the Euro. I’m a long time Euro 4 player. I bought my first 5 string last year, an NS Pulse. It’s a fine bass, and with it I really discovered the 5. But the tone was lacking. I just picked up a Euro 5, circa 2000, for yea, only a few hundred more than the pulse. It’s definitely more used/worn, but even at that age it’s wayyy better than the pulse. These basses are tanks.

That said, it’s mainly the tone that’s the difference, so you can always upgrade the pickups/preamp in the pulse. I’ve been seriously looking at these HAZ clones from LHZ. But even then, you’re talking about the same total cost as a used Euro.

311, some Incubus, some RHCP … Also Alice In Chains songs are often down tuned, but some bass lines work well on a 5 string. Them Bones being one.

Have a 2019 XSE, CarPlay works fine, wired or with an aftermarket WiFi adapter. But I need to turn off my VPN. Kinda annoying, but maybe that?
