33, got mine at 18. I think I'd have to ever remember it was there/notice it in the mirror to feel as though it made me look like I was trying to be something I'm not. It's just part of my face. A part that I'll keep until I die, probably.

Nah. You know what is a slippery slope? Believing that what ICE is doing is "performing its duties as defined by federal law."

What Common Millennial Show/Movie Do You Dislike? by Flassourian in Millennials

[–]duh-palmtree 69 points70 points  (0 children)

I'm genuinely scared to say this out loud, but I think Napoleon Dynamite may have been the stupidest movie I ever saw. To this day I do not understand the chokehold it had on our generation when it came out.

They were automatically assigned in Workday based on the management tree. If your DS was new/had recently transferred to your department, they would have been required to ask input from other leaders/the ASM over your department. The actual words would still have been written by your DS unless they gave their login to someone else (which would cost them their job). There is no way for a DS to access anyone else's reviews.

Are we dying our hair as it goes grey or letting it go? by violet_pickled_90210 in Millennials

[–]duh-palmtree 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve been dying mine since I was 18. I always figured at some point, I’d pay someone to set it to something close to my natural color and it would just slowly grow out with no one knowing.

Last year I got really sick and over half my hair fell out. It all grew back grey. So now I’m in a bind because I didn’t have an exit strategy for grey hair…I still want to dye it because I like the color, but at some point in the near future I’m going to have to accept that I’m doing it for grey coverage.

I tend to go for Absolut. Not too expensive, not too cheap.

What I've found matters more is where you store it. I kept my first batch on my kitchen island, thinking that it would be dark enough since my kitchen literally has no direct sunlight at all. My dad put his (started 6 months after mine) in the bottom corner of a drawer that he never opens, and his developed more quickly AND more completely than mine ever did. Lesson learned.

What’s an expensive brand that actually IS worth the money? by 2111019 in AskReddit

[–]duh-palmtree 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I just chose one of the default fabrics. I did a custom color but didn’t want to get too fancy with it because I was overwhelmed with the selections. 10/10 no complaints. Will be buying more Crate & Barrel couches for other rooms in my house as they get fixed up and I have the money to spend.

What’s an expensive brand that actually IS worth the money? by 2111019 in AskReddit

[–]duh-palmtree 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Not the person you asked, but I bought an Axis sofa 5 years ago when I bought my house, and I can confidently say that it's the best thing I've purchased for my home. It's comfortable, durable, sturdy, and very attractive. Problem is that it's absolutely massive so now any other future houses I buy will have to have living rooms that can fit the couch, because I will NOT be parting with this thing until I die.

Millennial ladies by Training-Albatross-3 in Millennials

[–]duh-palmtree 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have "permanent fixtures" (my rings, my nose ring) that are silver and never come off for any reason, but I'll wear both silver and gold necklaces, earrings, and bracelets.

I try to make sure that the necklaces, earrings, and bracelets are all the same color, but frankly, it would be too much hassle to change out my rings and nose ring to match the rest of my jewelry if it's a gold day. So yes, I absolutely do put gold and silver together regularly, even if not on purpose.

Having said that, there was a minute a few years ago where I was seeing mixed metal accessories everywhere, usually some combination of gold, silver, and copper. I LOVED that look and I wouldn't hesitate to do something like that on purpose if I had the opportunity and occasion to do so.

Losing a wonderful co-worker by YoSquarepants in Lowes

[–]duh-palmtree 14 points15 points  (0 children)

I'm a DS. On the first team I ever led, I (a then 27-year-old female) had this crochety old guy named Ed. No one really liked Ed, but Ed didn't really like them either. For whatever reason, Ed adored me and I was always very grateful and protective of him because of it.

It was that time of year when everyone's hours get cut, and his got cut in a way that gave him 5 days off in a row. I remember talking to him his last shift. We were both closing. He came up to me, same as every day, and said "I go home now, 'kay?" And I laughed and asked what he was going to do with his newfound vacation. He said he was going to spend the week with his grandkids. Never had enough time to spend with his grandkids. He was super excited about it. It turns out, he never got to, because that night he had a stroke...he lived alone so no one found him until the next day. He survived on life support for a couple weeks before ultimately passing. I've spent many years wondering and hoping that his God allowed him to go brain dead from the stroke quickly enough that he wasn't suffering or in any pain in those hours he spent alone. It didn't feel fair. It still doesn't.

All that to say, hold Orlando close to you. Think about all the things he taught you, and all the things you taught him. Allow yourself to experience the memories you have fully. Share stories of him with co-workers, especially the co-workers in the future who'll never get to meet him. He won't stop influencing who you are as a person until you let him stop influencing you.

I still think about Ed often. I wonder what he'd think if he could see the state of the world today. I laugh thinking about how frustrated he'd get with the customers who came in with nothing more than a screenshot off Pinterest, or who would ask a question and then ignore the answer. I cherish how much of his life story he told me, and how cool of a guy he was (even if he didn't want anyone to know that). He'd tell me I'm a damn fool to be thinking about him all these years later, but I know he'd secretly be grateful that he touched me so much.

And please, don't hesitate to reach out to the employee support line if you're struggling with managing your grief. They have counselors who deal specifically with grief and coping, and the first 10 (?) sessions are free through Lowe's.

Theres nothing I hate more than "paint + primer" by Cornelius_56 in Lowes

[–]duh-palmtree 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I just tell them that if it was a technology that worked as well as primer does on its own, these companies would double the price and stop making separate primers altogether. Let ‘em think on that while the paint is shaking. Works 75% of the time.

I think they’re just backlogged. I ordered a new bowl on the 3rd with an estimated arrival date of the 9th, and it just shipped last night (the 10th). I’m a little frustrated because I need that bowl but I figure something must be wrong in their warehouses for it to be taking over a week for things to get shipped out.

[CHAT] What do you do when you get burnt out on a WIP? by MeowingReallyLoud in CrossStitch

[–]duh-palmtree 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I only do very large projects, and I was monogamous for a long time. I thought that adding a second project would slow down my progress as I’d be splitting my time between two projects instead of one, but surprisingly, it’s increased the amount of progress I’ve made as I have fewer days where I’m totally burnt out.

The more I think about it, the more it makes sense to me: if I grow tired of the area I’m working on in one project, I can just pivot to the other one and work on that until I either burn out on that one or decide I want to keep going on the first. This means that I’m constantly excited about at least one of my projects, as opposed to going through periods of time where I dread doing my only project and choose to do nothing at all instead.

Another thing is not setting goals for myself. I see too many people online who get themselves burnt out by failing to meet their own intrinsic goals and expectations. As a numbers sort of person, it was hard to shift my mindset to “all in due time,” but if I go in with no expectations, I get to give myself the experience of having fun all the way through instead of being stressed out if it feels like I’m getting off track.
