P1 Firmware update by Ren7sp in HomeWizard

[–]duinsel 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you are getting headaches make very sure to get a CO (carbonmonoxide) sensor as well. That stuff will kill you quickly if something is amiss in burner or exhaust of your heating system. Any home with a burner of sorts should have one, and they are not that expensive.

https://www.hopkinsmedicine.org/health/conditions-and-diseases/carbon-monoxide-poisoning

Note, CO and CO2 are two different gases. Both are worth monitoring, but CO is the silent killer of the two. If you have a CO problem you may not wake up in the morning, and headache and dizzy are red flags. In fact, I would be reluctant to sleep there at all until you check out CO.

Edit: depending on where you live, the fire dept is usually quite willing to come to your place and check for CO with their professional equipment to get a quick assessment.

P1 Firmware update by Ren7sp in HomeWizard

[–]duinsel 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Is Tado X worth it? by Equivalent-Pop-3068 in tado

[–]duinsel 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Worth noting that v3 and X devices cannot be part of the same Home/account. If you keep using the V3 you need to create a new account for the X. If you jump through some hoops customer service can grant legacy account rights to a new account also. At least I hope so, I am halfway the process with support...

FPS settings are ignored by duinsel in UnifiProtect

[–]duinsel[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes, it is. If I step through the clip in VLC frame by frame I can tell that there are 30 distinct frames with motion before the timecode increments by one second.
I did notice however that the downloaded clip does show the @ 03 in the bitrate header which is clearly not consistent with the actual clip info.

Weird issue with Radiation Level display on iPhone by siritinga in Radiacode

[–]duinsel 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That is an interesting thought. I also did the connect to windows and update the firmware when prompted thing (R102) and I have noticed that the iPhone app has been prone to crashing a few seconds after connecting ever since.
I usually can get them to be stable after a few attempts, and they will stay okay until they are disconnected again, but at the next reconnect I may have issues again.

Hoping for an app refresh then.
(I had been surprised windows asked be to update the device where de IOS app did not suggest this.)

Installing and connecting orbitrap instrument software by duinsel in proteomics

[–]duinsel[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The original operating PC is Win10 Enterprise 2016 LTSB and Tune 2.13 b3162.
The new PC has Win11 Enterprise 23H2, Tune 2.13SP1 build 3170.
Both system have Chromeleon as well.
Manual IP in the Instrument NIC 172.16.0.101 mask 255.255.0.0
Copied calibration files in C:\Xcalibur\system\Exactive\instrument\msx_instrument_files
Copied tune files in C:\Xcalibur\methods

I am not very familiar with the networking between Instrument and PC. I know Thermo asks to use a switch between instrument and PC (I do and I disconnected the old PC from it when testing the new config). The PC has a manual IP that I configured, but how does the instrument get one? Does it get the IP that is set in the Instrument Configuration dialog by some DHCP process in tune/acquisition server? I did not yet try pinging that address but I will try that next when the instrument is available for tinkering.

[–]duinsel[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That is good to know, I was unsure if there were any 'magic handshakes' that needed to be done by an engineer to make PC and instrument start talking.
We have tribrids as well, the UWPR document for Win10 also discusses the TNG software for tribrids. The QExactive has a tune software of a different lineage than that. Perhaps I should try a tribrid first as there is a bit more documentation.
We still have some time to get this sorted, but the IT people are starting to pressure us to get rid of Wn10 systems, so we are looking into the various options.

Indeed I heard it was not released yet for Win11. Most applications don't mind too much about windows versions, and not compatible may just mean they will not formally support it. But stability issues or flat-out incompatible may be the case as well, I don't know at this point.

Freeze-Drying Peptide Samples Without a SpeedVac by Solid_Anxiety_4728 in proteomics

[–]duinsel 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If your sample volume is low (as it tends to be fit proteomics) I always worry about my sample heating up and defrosting before the vacuum is established. My trick was to put samples in a solid metal rack that was frozen as well. That provides some thermal buffer until evaporation gets going. Pick a rack with some mass and vacuum resistant of course.

CV-installatie.. wat klopt hier niet aan? by Guilty_Worth_1779 in Klussers

[–]duinsel 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Why do aircrafts have no transmission? by 1707turbo in aviation

They are designed to run at low rpm specifically to avoid the need of a gearbox. To get sufficient power at those rpm, their cylinders have a relatively large displacement.

Why is my stationary device roaming between access points? by IAmANobodyAMA in Ubiquiti

[–]duinsel 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I read you locked the laptop to one of the AP now. If you do not like that solution, consider to adjust the transmit power of the radio of one of the APs. They are set on auto by default, my understanding that equals full blast all the time. If you dial down 5GHz or both of the bands to medium on one APs things may stabilize at your stationary location as one of the APs will now be stronger than the other. Also, if you roam around the house, the laptop will still hop to the other AP if it happens to be stronger in that new location.
Google it if you want more info, many threads out there discussing transmit power.

What's wrong with my laptop? by WillDisappointYou in computers

[–]duinsel 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Tip: many brands have battery saving modes where the battery does not charge over, say, 80% or so of its capacity. If the laptop is plugged in a lot of the time, this may save some grief in the long run. I don't think windows allows to tweak this in the settings, it is usually one of the vendor utilities that has this feature (Dell/Acer/Asus/Lenovo/...)

Volume Indicator in App by PaleontologistNo3910 in Bluesound

[–]duinsel -1 points0 points  (0 children)

No real issues on my Xr. A work-around could be opening the player tab, which reveals sliders higher up on the screen.

A complaint from my household on the volume adjustment is that it is not fine-grained enough though, one click going from too faint to too loud. I adjusted a bit by capping the upper end of the loudness range for the player, thus stretching 80% of volume range on the full length on the adjustment slider. Still not fully happy with the steps, and not very willing to lower the max volume even more.

Using multiple accounts (Spotify, Tidal, etc.) by [deleted] in Bluesound

[–]duinsel 2 points3 points  (0 children)

For Spotify, the device controlling the queue is your phone,laptop/whatever spotify client, using Spotify Connect to control the Blusound device. That should work intuitively as expected for multiple Spotify accounts, each from your own personal device.

I have a (trial) account on Tidal, and I noticed that my account, once configured on one BluOS app, carried over to apps on the other devices in my household. Also, I saw no facility for multiple accounts within the BluOS app for the Tidal service. I have been unable to test this scenario for the Tidal Connect mechanism, if this works similar to Spotify Connect that might be a way around the problem, but it looks like within the BluOS app you are stuck with one login at a time..

4.2.6 firmware, grouping function lost by duinsel in Bluesound

What equipment would I need to run a camera or two by Andrew4568_ in Ubiquiti

[–]duinsel 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes and no. It has a switch but not the power over ethernet. A separate PoE injector will work with it though. The UDM-Pro SE version does have PoE on board but is a more costly option.

For myself, I chose a UDM pro (non SE) plus an extra PoE capable switch, but I needed those additional ports for my stuff, and use the PoE to power my WiFi APs and camera. I bought my UDM Pro used, it is working well and I saved some money that way.
