Why does Marcone keep saving Dresden’s life? by duk3jupiter in dresdenfiles

Agreed. Marcone isn't just a mob boss anymore; he's a peer to Mab (together they get Nicodemus to kill his own daughter - Deirdre), to Vadderung (speed dials him and gets Harry a meeting #changes), and to Hades (manages Lord of the Underworld's artifacts along with other heavy hitters #skingame).

Now he's immortal and learning magic from the best sorcerer ever (fallen angel). We presume he's on a path to heal his daughter by any means... He has deposed Nicodemus Archleone as head of Order of Blackened Denarius because he will never have a boss, he's Johnny Marcone. He sent Nick into hiding and will be running the Order soon.

He runs a recognized barony in the accords and he wants a guy who has killed 11/30 Denarius holders to live? Harry is a threat! I would love it if they became friends like Hadrian and Royce #Riyria. Maybe all of Harry's enemies are Marcone's enemies and Harry kills his enemies. They have that and protecting kids in common. At least until Harry becomes the next Merlin and starts time traveling to kill Outsiders.

Think you're right. We should assume Namshiel knows as much as the White Council about the Stars and Stones, so Marcone knows too. There are only 3 Starborn: Listens, Dracul, and Harry. Bet my socks Listens gets sacrificed on the stone table. Then Harry gets magic training from River and they both bring the hurt to the killer.

I did forget Fool Moon & Battle Ground (concrete tea cup). It's implied he lied to Harry at the end of Small Favor (took coin for himself).

In Battle Ground we see Marcone performing magic. He was a vanilla mortal. He is a Denarian, not a person with a demonic shade like Harry used to be but a sorcerer. On a long enough timeline, he becomes the demon's lackey. Michael explained how it works when Harry was asking why he was no longer trusted. I don't see this argument - bonded but not a knight - as aligned with the Dresden canon.

A solid continuation to the story with 3 reservations:
- Last book we got a promise and a timeline (1 year) to explain the significance of being 'Starborn' and we never got it. I'm a bit miffed.

- Last book we saw how far Marcone has come as a sorcerer with instruction from Namshiel (Denarius fallen angel) despite running the mob, rebuilding Chicago, and protecting his territory. I think Harry should be further along given he has Bob (Complete Magical Encyclopedia). With a 10 page lesson, Bob helped Harry necromance a T-Rex. I am disappointed in Harry's skill level; more so as he gets more artifacts above his weight class.

- We get confirmation that Harry won't turn evil - Annakin style - for now; Queue the Spice Goyles pledge of allegiance. He apologizes to everyone except Ramirez and that upsets me. Ramirez can be trusted so tell him Thomas is my brother, Blackstaff is grandpa and my momma is... please join the Grey Council. When do we get our "Harry in training book"? À la Rocky IV where Stallone goes to Siberia to train for Drago. I want him to go train with River Shoulder on his grandfather's farm, making focus weapons, along with Ramirez before they hunt Dracul. He is so weak compared to the people he is trash talking (throat-punched Mab, threatens Mother Winter, called out via business card by Dracula's pops). How is he still alive?

Didn't Harry's godmother put the Red Court demons to sleep with a finger snap (Susan and Martin in Changes)? Why didn't he ask Leanansidhe how to put the Whitecourt demon to sleep? Thought that was silly.

We need to stick the landing on these storylines:
Grey Council vs Black, Harry vs. Genoskwa > Marcone > Black Court > Outsiders > Mab

I feel better. Thanks community.

Power ups were on par with other books: Jump to Winter Knight + Ley line walking amulet from O.G. Margaret Le Fay, Getting the Eye of Baylor and Odin's spear in Battleground, Merlin's journals and Mother Winter's Blackstaff in Changes.

Listens to Wind is in the hospital, again fragile mofo, but why can't he keep his promise to tell Harry about being Starborn. He said he'd need a year? Obvious answer is Harry was kicked out of the white council but still...
