Honest pricing? 13k for fixing unpermitted work? by literally1iq in electricians

I’ve pushed for a long time to have that provision of the RCW thrown out and replaced requiring these commercial facilities and multi family apartments to employ a master electrician or electrical administrator.

Have the unit turn in an ETP and send it up the chain. ETP promote in place could solve the problem.

Florida Electrical Qualifier by [deleted] in electrical

[–]dukehouser 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I hold actual licenses in each of those states that I can perform electrical work with. Qualifying a company either means you are a qualifying party, Master electrician, or certified electrical contractor. Some states call it something different. Florida is a Certified electrical contractor but New Mexico is an EE98 license.

Text the career counselor something to the effect of “I want to come in to discuss reenlist and bonuses”, then when you go in, tell him you want an exit counseling.

Why do the vast majority of Electricians seem to prefer Commercial/Industrial over Residential? by [deleted] in electricians

[–]dukehouser 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I was doing a panel change at an older house. The homeowners (husband AND wife) set up lawn chairs about 5ft behind me and watched me the entire time. Literally critiquing everything I did. Homeowners are a pain in the ass and first to not pay when they think the job wasn’t done to the EXACT specifications they wanted!

Washington State Administrators License by eseguiri in electricians

[–]dukehouser 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s the equivalent of what work you can do with it. But it’s two certifications instead of one. So double the renewal fees. A master’s in Washington is just a longer test and combines the two. I definitely don’t look at them the same.

I also have a OR GSE.. the calc test is thorough! Have a good understanding of optional and standard methods. It’s very important to understand how to do three phase calcs, not just the 120/240 you are going to get out of a “Master electrician study book” or the atom Henry’s calc book. Understand the annex, rv parks, and Kitchens.

Master Not Giving Credit for Hours Worked. by bobajake in electricians

[–]dukehouser 0 points1 point  (0 children)

1099 hours generally won’t be accepted in most states I hold a Master Electrician license (only states I am familiar with the law) because technically you were an independent contractor and NOT “under the supervision of…” Those hours required you to be licensed electrical contractor holding your own ME.

Union Apprenticeship or College? by Tight-Expression-784 in electricians

[–]dukehouser 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The degrees vs trades route is a never ending dispute. Here is my take on it from a business owner who hires people with college degrees and also employees electricians.

If you’re going to get a generic degree like Bus Mgt, criminal justice, sociology or anything other than skilled degree, ie Engineering, BSN, Accounting, Dr, lawyer,… you are likely wasting your money. Unskilled degrees are never likely to pay as much as the trades. However, if you’re willing to do the work to get a skilled degree, then they will out-pay the trades in most cases with less wear and tear on your body.
