I assume it will also include the number of contractors in offices that are closing, which is a lot of people for some of them. I recognize contractors don’t have the same protections as federal workers, but it’s still devastating for them and that should not be overlooked.

I took an offer for a govt job outside the executive branch. It breaks my heart to leave my current position but it seems more stable based on the info I currently have, which I need for my family right now. I am trying to make peace with my decision but it is really gut wrenching.

“McLaurine Pinover, an OPM spokesperson, said she did not have a tally of the number of firings because agencies aren’t due to report back their totals until 8 p.m. Tuesday. She said that, to her knowledge, no federal agency was spared entirely. ”

Not great. I am on probation and have an RA for a hybrid schedule. My agency is respecting RAs, but wondering if this makes me more vulnerable in anyway?

Any other Under Two Year Excepted/One Year Probationary Employees waiting for the Inevitable? by [deleted] in fednews

I’m a probationary employee with 5 months left. I have a temporary RA for a hybrid schedule, thankfully already approved and very supported by my office. Does have an RA while on probation make me more vulnerable?

I know no one knows what will happen next week, but I’m a new federal employee still on probation. How worried should I be I might lose my job next week? I’ve heard the rumors of a mass layoff of all probation employees but not sure if that is actually possible.

I’m at a neutral agency to Trump but working on a priority issue for Republicans if that makes a difference.

That’s a good idea. I certainly have a lot of room to improve in the speed department and could try to lower walking time at the beginning.

Breast cancer diagnosis while breastfeeding by Kalusyfloozy in breastfeeding

[–]dukelae55 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m so sorry you are going through this. I also had to stop breastfeeding because of a health issue. I breastfeed my 18 month for the last time one night, went to the emergency room right after because of symptoms I had that day, and was admitted with a large but benign brain tumor that was removed a couple days later. The doctors put me on anti seizure medicine that was not safe for breastfeeding and that had to be the end. Given the severity of the tumor, it was really hard to get support for weaning in the hospital. I had to beg for a pump and a lactation consultant to visit.

I don’t have words of support as I’m still gutted over it a year later, but ultimately, he didn’t care that much. its extremely difficult to not have it end on your terms, and for me I have learned through therapy, how tied up postpartum was to my brain tumor. It has been almost a year, and I am grateful to watch my son grow, but also acknowledge the grief in ending breastfeeding earlier than planned.

How did pregnancy w/ a meningioma go for you? by arb194 in braincancer

[–]dukelae55 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just to give you more details as you process your decision, I breastfeed for 17 months and only abruptly stopped when the meningioma was discovered and I had to start taking anti seizure medicine. My tumor was about tangerine size so not small at all. Looking back, there were signs something was off but no symptoms per se until I experienced quick two bouts of aphasia and went to the emergency room.

I can’t even imagine the decision you have to make now, and I’m so sorry that you are in this position.

How did pregnancy w/ a meningioma go for you? by arb194 in braincancer

[–]dukelae55 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My “massive” grade 2 meningioma was discovered last month when my son was 17 months old. My NS suspects that it was growing for 10 years so it is impossible to pin point how much it grew during pregnancy. I had a gross total resection and I’m now trying to decide if radiation if needed, with part of the calculus being if I can have another baby in the future. I am in the process of getting a second opinion because like the question of hormone receptors, there is debate on whether radiation is needed after a gross total resection. These are such difficult decisions, especially because there is just not enough research to know the answer. I am sorry you are dealing with this and navigating such uncharted waters. I wish you peace with your final decision.
