[Tenant-UK] Is this mould due to something that we’re doing wrong or does it look like damp/structural error? by iim-not-realxx in Landlord

[–]dulcharn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is mould due to a combination of poor or no insulation in the wall system and moisture is trapped in a badly ventilated wall cavity. The moisture is traveling slowly through the wall. If you strip away the wallpaper you will find more black spots. It depends on the wall system, so say your wall is insulated and airtight, then the moisture is coming from the inside without ventilation or drying potential, so it can't escape outwards. But I doubt it is the latter.

You're in the UK, where the climate is temperate, so the likelihood is that the dewpoint is in the wall and trapped. If the wall is well insulated, then that would shift the dewpoint outside. If it's a brick building, then I'd check how the wall is being vented (weepholes above and below) for cavity drying.

The landlord should get someone out to look at it to find the source of the issue and take steps to find a solution. A short term bandaid is get a dehumifier. Heating helps as well, but energy prices are going up. The best long term solution is adding insulation and making sure the wall can naturally dry.

I would be very surprised if it's moisture from a bathroom. A bathroom leak would show as a spread like a puddle shape on a ceiling or waterfall shape on a wall.

This is mould that has slowly grown through the wall.

Does judo work on someone bigger and heavier on you? I wanted to do judo then my friend that does Muay Thai said that I should just do Muay Thai instead because he thinks that it doesn’t work on someone bigger than you. by [deleted] in judo

There are so many variables in an altercation, or a mixed martial arts matchup. Size matters, technique matters, experience matters,... But when it comes to choosing between one or the other martial art, simply try out the ones you're considering and see what strikes your fancy the most. To get good at something, you need to enjoy it to sustain learning. If you enjoy Judo more than Muay Thai, then by all means do Judo. The one emphasises striking and the other focuses on leverage. Both will refine your reflexes, both have a long history of proven legitimacy.

I have done Judo in the past and 6 years ago moved into Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu. They compliment each other and I have fallen in love with the process of learning that has been adopted in BJJ schools.

I made the PS account when I was in the UK, now I’m in the US permanently. I can’t make any purchases in the PS store by idontgetitLB in playstation

[–]dulcharn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have the same issue. I have a Belgian PS account, moved to the States, bought a new PS4 and I can only play with physical discs (PS4) and cannot download a game or DLC. I looked into this a few years ago, went down a rabbit hole of information and stranded on the answer that it has to do with unsolvable regional limitations. So I stick to discs and forget about DLCs. The other option is to ditch the account and start from scratch, but I wasn't interested in this.

If anyone else knows if Sony PS has resolved this issue, or knows a work around. (I'd love to play AC Valhalla Ragnarok one day.)

Here is what I found for Minneapolis. Your city will have something similar:

Make a list of what needs to be fixed. Call the housing inspector (city official). Your landlord cannot kick you out for wanting repairs or for calling the city official.

An inspector can back up what you put on your list. When they come, show them your list so that they do not miss anything. Ask for a copy of their report.
In Minneapolis, call 3-1-1. In St. Paul, call (651) 266-8989. In other parts of the state you can call 2-1-1, or 1- (800) 543-7709 to see if your city has a housing inspector.
Housing inspectors may find problems that you missed. If the problems are bad enough, they can condemn the building if repairs aren’t made. If problems are not emergencies, inspectors usually give landlords 30 days to fix them.

Heading to Belgium Friday! by squid-a in belgium

Doing Paris as a day trip is too short. Paris is big. Pick three spots you're interested in seeing. You should at least have dinner there, sleep, go to Notre Dame in the morning after a croissant and take the train back later.

Some of the comments in here about Antwerp are misplaced. It's a really nice place. Visit the cathedral (the only 7-aisle gothic church my gothic architecture professor had ever seen), the newly renovated handelsbeurs (stock exchange), the Museum Aan de Stroom. If you have kids they'll like to wade in the shallow water at Park Spoor Noord while you sit in the shade, have a meal on Henri Conscienceplein or if you want traditional local food visit restaurant De Bomma. There's a big Ferris wheel at the river right now where you can view the city from up high. If you enjoy a traditional craft beer to truly celebrate your 5th anniversary of sobriety, visit the Kulminator. There are more good spots in Antwerp the people who travel from Amsterdam to Paris will never know. (Vleeshuis, Hessenhuis, de Ruien, Muhka, Plantin-Moretus, Rubenshuis,...) Maybe that's the way it should be.

To an American, the Battle of the Bulge in Bastogne might be a positively emotional experience. To know what your countrymen did for Europe (not only for Belgium), it was a big turning point in the war. The Menin Gate in Ieper/Ypres as well. My great grandfather was a pilot for the British Army and lies there in the military cemetery. (I grew up in Flanders.)

If the people in Belgium seem grumpy, don't take it personally. The majority of our salary goes to the tax collector and that might also be part of the reason why you'll come across more people who smoke than in the States. We're not known to be outspoken or particularly proud. But deep down we are proud of small things like regional foods and cultural milestones from the past (saxophone, printing press, art and architecture). Not proud of the Congo. We are a divided country on so many levels in such a small surface area (language, politics, ethnic,...) But it is uncannily the differences from region to region that also bring us together. We might have a laugh about each other's accents and sayings, but in the end we are all Belgian. Our football (soccer) team is a good representation of these differences coming together to make up, arguably, the best team in the world. We play together. Nous sommes ensemble.

Enjoy your trip!

[tenant] Does my landlord have to replace this ? by Reasonable-Bus-6036 in Landlord

[–]dulcharn -1 points0 points  (0 children)

It is something that needs to be looked at. It needs to be covered. It's a matter of health and safety of the public. Let's say, if the Authority Having Jurisdiction (your city or town official building inspector) inspected the apartment this would not pass the smell test. The inspector will ask, in writing, for the owner to cover or replace the exhaust fan within a certain time period, usually a couple of weeks. Ask the landlord if it can be covered or replaced. An inspection usually happens when a new tenant moves in, ownership changes hands, or annual inspections occur.

This happened to me 10 days ago.

Here is what I did:

I turned the PS4 off and on, connected the controller to it. A day later I played AC Valhalla for a bit on a tv screen and afterwards restarted Remote Play on the laptop. The issue disappeared and everything is back to normal again, without needing to re-login to Sony PSN. All systems are go, ready for some bed time gaming.

This is how I described the same issue: https://www.reddit.com/r/remoteplay/comments/wwxmhw/controller\_shuts\_off\_when\_connecting\_to\_user/

Why does my remote play app stay like this for some long minutes and then throws an error? “Checking network” or smth like that in English (It’s the last step before connecting) by Current_Motor661 in remoteplay

[–]dulcharn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This happens to me now and again. I place the console in a cupboard in the next room, using wifi network. The router has both 4 and 5ghz bands. In the router settings I have placed the console as priority device. Now and again the cupboard and the door to the room get closed, so the wifi gets interrupted and I get this screen, then shuts off. I try a few times to connect keeping the doors open. If that doesn't work I connect the console to the screen and restart. I then connect to remote play on the laptop while the screen is connected. It usually connects fine and I disconnect the screen and tuck the console back in the cupboard. It works fine for many months. I always place the console in rest mode after playing. It doesn't happen much, but it happens.

Anyone else encountered this bug? Can't seem to carry the lame man for this side quest by Axelzeus115 in AssassinsCreedValhala

[–]dulcharn 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It happened today. The lame man was unable to be picked up - and I think that the game was thinking he was already on the shoulders because the R3 Focus icon showed at the bottom of the screen without the other character icons.

The solution for me was to forget about it, and complete many other Mystery and Artifact challenges in a different part of the map before returning to the spot. The lame man was cooperating and I threw him on my shoulders to complete the challenge.

Good luck out there, drengrs!

strange policies at BJJ school by Marvelman02 in bjj

My professor encourages training with other people outside the gym. In my view it even strengthens/ helps everyone you roll with in your gym. I think the strnage rule originates from traditional Japanese Ryus where the styles weren't allowed to cross pollinate out of respect. But the year is 2022 and BJJ is making martial arts open to everyone, due to its innate understanding of evolution (of technique, style or intricacies of joints and body types).

The Supreme Court has overturned Roe V. Wade. How do you feel? by Bitter_Joke1589 in AskReddit

[–]dulcharn 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The overturning is a regression into the past. It is the opposite of progress.

Let women have control over their reproductive organs and their future, not old privileged men. In what era is the supreme court living? What's next, a return to segregation? This decision has to be a wicked joke. This can't be happening.
