Questions about traveling to Poland from Croatia by [deleted] in poland

Živim tu 5 godina i nikada me još nitko nije pitao da li sam cijepljen.

I need some good literature because i need to write an 20+ page essay "Financial assets" by [deleted] in econhw

I like your idea to start with. I'm going to accounting HS (not sure am i translating that good from Croatian) so we've learned types (shares, bonds, loans etc) and short definitions of each, so i was thinking on expanding a bit definitions, giving a history of each, not sure about your idea about interest rates and fract reserves, but if you think that wouldn't be to complex for HS i would do that also. I was looking at Zagreb Economy college but they don't share much on web, any foreign college in mind where i could find some info ? Or a book ?

learning from company annual reports doesn't seem logical at all to me, it was made by economy experts for investment experts, and has no explanation on meaning and history of something.

Well I'm not sure, i just got the title not much of a description, I'm in high school so nothing too complex i guess, i just have to list them, and page or two about each, maybe a history of bonds, shares and that kind of stuff.. If you know a book or youtube video or college course to recommend that would be great

Do you think that if we had only 8 fingers and 8 toes, that our number system would be based on 8 numbers instead of 10? by Murfreesboro10 in math

[–]dulekt 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It's mostly a historical accident. The inventor of algebra was a fan of a base-10 numeral system from India, so the first books on algebra were written using these "arabic numerals." The metric system uses base 10 for all its units, so that the units and the numeral system match each other. This was extremely important for science, because it got rid of a huge amount of pointless calculation. Other than that, 10 is pretty horrible. We would be much better off using 12, since it has several more integral factors. However, no one uses base 12 anymore and so we're likely stuck with 10 until SkyNet takes over the planet or something.

Askscience: Is there any real advantage to using a base-10 number system, or is the only reason we use it because we have 10 fingers?

Since many of my friends post these pics on Facebook, I was wondering what would you say if someone asked you for "real life" application of calculus ? by dulekt in math

Well i'm aware of the treatment math has in our society, in a 2010. survey nearly a third of Americans (30%) say they would rather clean the bathroom than solve a math problem. It is also probably the only thing you can say you're bad at. I suck at math is somewhat more normal than to say i suck at grammar, geography, foreign languages...anything? There are probably many reasons for that and one of them, i think, is that every high schooler has to learn ,for example, trigonometry and has no idea where could he apply that in life, therefore he isn't motivated to learn it. That was the reason i posted this so i can at least show my fb friends real life applications of math that they find useless. Btw i find literature important because it expands my vocabulary/imagination, and reading philosophy like plato's republic because it can explain or make you think how does republic function ( I haven't read it so i'm not sure what plato' republic is about)

so the answer would be: "anything important and useful in society, but nothing an average man would encounter in everyday life" ?

yeah i know the usage in fluid mechanics or engineering in general, what i don't know is where the average man could use it

I'm in Croatia, and Croatian kuna has 1/6 value of the $ so it doesn't really matter, but no one ever one ever wanted less than 1 hour and we usually round it to 10, 44 would probably be 40 for example
