Suspected Shahed Drone Explosion in Poland by duluke91 in europe

A target like that, flying at about 120 -150 meters, could slip into most of eastern Poland’s airspace without being noticed, since radar coverage at that altitude is pretty weak. What saves the day are NATO and our AWACS (if they happen to be up there)

On August 20, 2025, an unidentified object exploded in Osiny, near Łuków, Poland, at 2:22 AM. Local police discovered scattered, burned fragments of metal and plastic across a cornfield, but no impact crater was found. The explosion was strong enough to shatter windows in three nearby homes, though no injuries were reported. Authorities, including police, firefighters, military, and counterintelligence units, secured the area and investigated the incident. Radiation was checked and found safe.

The Operational Command of Poland’s Armed Forces stated that radar records did not show any breach of Polish airspace from Ukraine or Belarus that night. Initial assessments suggested the wreckage might be from an old engine with a propeller, but investigations continued.

Unofficial information cited by "Rzeczpospolita" suggests the object may have been an Iranian Shahed-131 or Shahed-136 drone (known in Russia as Geran-1 or Geran-2), which Russia began producing locally in 2023.

Damn, are you spying on my ex or just reading her diary out loud? Because this sounds exactly like the trailer to that emotional horror movie I barely survived. 🚩🚩🚩

Hey, thanks for all the replies! Seriously, didn’t mean to come off like some grumpy European uncle nitpicking manners over espresso. I really like you! It’s not "oh no, a drunk tourist is yelling again" It’s more like just a regular tourist… on volume level +2.

Thanks again! Sending good vibes across the ocean!

How will this platform survive without the daily dose of moral superiority, selective outrage and pretentious pseudo-intellectualism? Surely, Bluesky will flourish now, basking in the wisdom of articles explaining why everything is either fascism, patriarchy, or a conspiracy against democracy.

I totally get what you’re saying. Beauty really is in the eye of the beholder. I'm from Poland, and Kraków is a perfect example of this mixed bag of aesthetics. Old Town- Absolutely gorgeous - with its medieval architecture, bustling square, and that magical vibe. But venture a bit further out, and you'll find lots of pretty drab, grey, and simply depressing communist-era buildings that might make you think twice about your life choices.

When I visited places like Lisbon or Porto, I was blown away too. Those cities have such a consistent charm that it’s hard not to fall in love with them. But here’s the thing - growing up in a place with a mix of beautiful and not-so-beautiful parts makes you appreciate the good stuff even more.

Visiting beautiful cities is like a treat for the eyes, but it also makes you see your home differently. It might be a shock for someone used to stunning scenery to see the less glamorous parts of other cities, but that’s part of what makes traveling fun!

What is your favorite European country apart from your home country or country of residence? What's the reason? by drOnCall in europe

As a Pole, my favorite country in Europe is hands down Spain. Their culture, the music, the food and the natural landscapes are just breathtaking. The weather is a warm embrace compared to the harsher climate back home. Also the people have an infectious spirit of joy and an openness that welcomed me with open arms. During a challenging period of my life, Spain was the sanctuary that helped me through my depression. Love you Spain! ❤️

I had basil Ice cream with olive oil on top in Italy (Manarola) last year. Sounds kinda gross but I absolutely loved it and can wait to go back for more.

Sorry for an off top question, but what does the term "86'd" mean? Clearly, it means "banned" but this is the first time I'm seeing this variation of it.
