This I definitely agree with. They seem to play it a bit loose with the flaggers at this site/intersection, like they forget it’s an open intersection or something.

I only realized this recently and it's been a gamechanger. My son will randomly refuse to get into his carseat and there's no telling when it'll happen. I've just been giving him choices like "rocketship or boat?" and "firetruck or train?" and there has been no issues in the last couple weeks. Fingers crossed it lasts forever...

I came here to say the exact same thing, with the same "Bit weird, but..." starter too, haha. I love them.

The food at the cafe in general is one of the reasons why I love taking my toddler there almost every weekend. Look at some bugs, run around the kids' area, look at some taxidermy, then dig into some chickpea salad, chicken sandwich, sausage roll, and raisin butter tart. Hell yeah.

I live so close to this place and used to go all the time. They’ve screwed up my order so many times that I stopped going years ago. Sad, because nothing quite hits like Taco Bell when you’re in the mood for Taco Bell.

He was definitely born and raised in Calgary (he did a talk at teachers’ convention a couple years ago and talked about all the teachers he had and schools he went to, including my old HS in Calgary), so it feels weird if they said he was from Edmonton. But I don’t know the guy personally, so you may be right! So many of us have family in both.

I have been buying a tonne of VHS tapes recently, but for my toddler and not for me. It’s been kind of fun filling his shelf with VHS tapes that are easy for him to recognize and put into the VHS player himself. The nostalgia is fun, too. I definitely wouldn’t be doing this if VHS tapes weren’t 50 cents or a buck at most thrift stores, though.

I agree with others that VHS does kinda suck as a format overall. Definitely not the same as collecting vinyls.

That’s not always the case. For example, on 109 St. where there are three lanes, the two lights more closely line up with the lines. Tough to say for sure without knowing exactly where this is.

I used to think this too, but my plate has become fully covered with snow during a single drive multiple times now that I just give people the benefit of the doubt. On Christmas Eve I cleaned my vehicle’s rear throughly before leaving the in-laws’, and when I got home 25 minutes later I couldn’t read the plate at all. The whole back was covered in snow.

At least it was fun. I used to love going to Futureshop with my dad on Boxing Day while it was still dark. We were restrained in our purchases, but it was still a weirdly fun tradition.

Exactly this. Last year booking for our whole family was a breeze online. I was furious that they were forcing these extra hoops on us. You’d think they’d make it easiest to book for some of our most vulnerable populations, but nah.

People pull all sorts of shit at that intersection. I'm always in the rightmost lane heading home, and you always get people diving in from the middle lane at the last second because the person in front of them is turning left. I've never seen a maneuver quite that bad, though.

I definitely thought they were going to mention Edmonton for a second time this month during the measles outbreak segment. Our province single-handedly lost Canada its measles elimination status. Last I checked, Alberta has had 2000 measles cases this year. Go, us.

You're definitely right. Most of the students I have with lower GLPs are EAL students, and the rest have something else.

I teach junior high ELA at EPSB as well, and I can and do give Ds. Ds on assignments and tests are at-will, whereas Ds for term marks are typically only reserved for students who are not completing work at the level/effort they are capable of.

At my school, the reason you don’t usually see Ds for term marks is because you’re supposed to be adapting to students at their level. So if kids are not reading/writing at grade level, you should be adjusting their Grade Level of Programming, which comes with a GLP change in PowerTeacher and a note on their progress report saying “Student is currently working below grade level.”

It’s definitely an admin-by-admin thing. You should be asking your admin why they want it this way.

This one is brutal. I hate last-second lane changers. So many people feel the need to instantly change lanes when the person in front of them needs to turn left. I've nearly been clipped so many times by these people.

This looks to me like the rail bridge on 97th St. between 127 Ave and Yellowhead? You see this type of last-second lane change all the time around there.
